Red face NY Times Food Section - John Besh

DINING & WINE | October 31, 2007
From Disaster, a Chef Forges an Empire
By KIM SEVERSON
John Besh was once simply a good chef with a fancy restaurant. His post-Katrina narrative has turned him into a spokesman for his city’s culinary recovery.

Nice article. There are links to a couple of recipes as well.

Restaurant August is fabulous! Better and less expensive than Emeril's...I talked to Cheh Besh for a while- he was humble and seemed very sincere. Those grillades look great. Veal works well in that dish as well. I'll have to watch that Next Iron Chef show...

We've been watching the show, and he has been fun to watch. It's down to 3 now and he will be 1 of the 2 finalists. I don't know if they have audience voting like with their Next Network Star series, but it may be worth getting voting early and often.

August has been on my list. I think it'll be our new try next JF. I thought the same thing about the veal.

Restaurant August is one of most favorite restaurants in N. O. We try to get there every visit. FWIW, we highly recommend it if you want a fine dining experience. John Besh is very down to earth!

August is excellent, as is his new restaurant, Luke. More casual, even rustic, German and French influences, highly recommended. It is located where Cobalt used to be (the associated hotel, formerly the Hotel Monaco, is now a Hilton) directly across St. Charles from the Intercontinental .

Thanks for sharing the article festivalgirl. We loved our dinner at August during the '06 Fest. And as others have noted, John Besh was very kind and down to earth coming out to chat with the diners. Would love to try Luke...thanks for the rec Nola!
