the club crawl is an understatement....frenchmen st. closes to car traffic,
and theres brass bands playing in the street....upstairs bars/clubs open, serve food and have music on the balconies...places that dont ever have music, that nite they have live music including the bike shop... heres the blirb from fqfi....the folks who put on satchmofest.. most of the music happens saturday and sunday at the mint....just a block from frenchmen st... Satchmo SummerFest...8/2-8/5.... "What a Wonderful World" you'll discover during an entertaining and educating weekend in the French Quarter honoring New Orleans' native son, Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong. The Satchmo-inspired program includes musical performances, lively discussions, jazz exhibits, a jazz mass, activities for budding young jazz fans, a club crawl, "red beans and ricely yours" foods, and a star-studded line-up of performances that would have made Louis smile. |

Thanks for the tip, Swag.
For a three night stay during Satchmo, the Whitney is offering that $49 rate; the Bourbon Orleans, $64. Both are great deals for those particular properties. I wasn't planning on staying at either one, but I may pull the trigger on Bourbon Orleans. (I'm going to investigate a little more; Hotwire has some good deals for that period, too...)
