Default Charmaine's Place

Looks like there's a new venue in town.

Charmaine's Place
1433 Saint Charles Avenue

A new venue opened by singer Charmaine Neville just upstairs from the St. Charles Tavern.

If anyone gets a chance to check it out, let us know what it's like.

I read about it in the offbeat. she says she's gonna do it all--cook, bartender, music, etc. I'd love to hear about it too.

One of the best people I've ever met in New Orleans. Charmaine makes me feel at home every time I see her. I can't wait to visit her place.

I'll never forget running into her at the Patry a few years back.

I was groovin' by the entrance while the band was playing "Brother John" when I saw this gal dancing outside the gates on the street. She was singing and saying something, but I couldn't really make it out. I walked over, and started dancing with her through the gate, and she said "that's my family's song!" I immediately recognized that it was Charmaine Neville and invited her in. She was on her way to some gig in the Marigny, but she said that she would try to come back later to sit in with Kermit.

It was one of those truly special moments that could only happen in NOLA. A band from St. Louis is playing a Neville Brothers song....and an actual Neville walks by.

I'm still haunted by her post-K story, and it definitely changed the way I now view her:

I remember that Ross, I was at the check-in table at the time. Wish she would've come back!

Ross, thank you for telling that story. Totally brought a smile to my face on a day when not a lot is going right!

Me too! The thing is, I honestly couldn't remember whether she did or not. Apparently someone slipped some alcohol into the jello, and yet another person spiked the brownies that day. Can you believe that??? What kind of person would mess with dessert like that? Is nothing sacred? I mean, if you can't trust dessert...what else is left? For all I know, Jesus of Nazareth may have risen from the dead and sat in with Kermit.

(BTW, if he did, I would appreciate a board tape.)
