Petunia’s Restaurant, the popular French Quarter eatery housed in a flamingo pink Creole townhouse, has closed.
The restaurant, at 817 St. Louis St., attracted patrons, locals and tourists, who waited outside in line for close to an hour for weekend brunch service.
An answering machine that picked up at the restaurant puts its fate bluntly: "We're closed and out of business."
Petunia’s got its start in the 1970s as the St. Louis Street Crepe Shoppe. In 1984, the most recent management changed the name to Petunia’s and added a full-service menu featuring Cajun and Creole dishes and other New Orleans fare.
The owner could not immediately be reached for comment.•
