Hello Guys,
Looking to come back to Jazz fest, this time for my Bachelor Party! I attended the festival in 2002 and always said that I would come back. Question to you all, how soon would you start looking at hotels? I am tempted to book now but I am not sure if I will be paying a higher rate so far in advance. I need about 4 rooms. What do you all think?
What weekend would you suggest? first or second? Which weekend typically had the better acts?
Until the lineup is announced early next year, it's a tossup, although 2nd weekend offers an extra day (Thursday).
My best hotel advice is to book something that is refundable/cancellable now, then look for better deals (especially on priceline & hotwire) as Fest approaches.

If you go for 2 more years will you be a Masterofjazz?

I would suggest the first. Or the second. Or both.
It is a pretty good bet the usual suspects will be at one or the other weekend (eg Irma, Mac, Cowboy, Rads, Nevilles......etc). I am pulling for more klezmer and Ornette, but thats just me.

Funny story about Rickey Henderson that you may appreciate as a baseball fan. As you may know, Rickey is not known for being the most sophisticated guy. Incredible athlete, but sort of in his own world, to put it kindly. While boarding a bus after a game during his later years, one of the players says "you can sit up front Rickey, you've got tenure." To which Rickey replied: "Ten years?? Rickey's got a lot more than ten years in the league!"

Actually, if the Rads and Nevilles play Fest again (which I'd say is a pretty safe bet), it's almost certain that they would both play the final set on Sunday of the second weekend, Rads at Gentilly and Nevilles at Acura.

the Radiators have closed 2nd sunday at the wvue-wnoe/polariod/sprint/gentilly stage for the last 19 years (1991).
i'm hoping for another 19.

you'll find me on the the 'hill' between the first two bridges from the track.
i've never heard a bad radiator set, but i've never heard one that is finer than each and every one i've heard on the last day of fest.

Sweet spot! I'll look for ya.
They'll be in town, (MD and VA) Sat and Sun, think I'll start a thread.

I hate to pick, but this is actually not quite correct. In 2006, The Radiators were scheduled on the second Saturday. Lionel Richie was scheduled to close the Gentilly stage and moved to Acura when Fats was unable to play and no one played in the last time slot at Gentilly. It could have been the Rads closing Acura, but they were not there that year. In a way, it was sort of fitting that the '06 fest closed that way, considering the state of everything else here at that point in time.

i stand corrected. i closed out sunday at acura - which is rare for me. i guess since i did not venture to gentilly stage after saturday i was confused.

We just booked 11 nights at the Frenchmen! 4/22 - 5/3!!!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Confession: I should say rebooked, because I initially booked for the wrong dates (4/29-5/10)! Whoops! Better to catch that now than then!

Is it too early to start tossing around rumours about BNA's for 2010?
Apparently not:
