Anyone on hear planning to park a Motorhome at the French Quarter RV park? It's a brand new RV park right down in the quarter. We stayed there last year while it was under construction. If you are there look me up first weekend. I'll be in a 38 foot tan Fleetwood Bounder with TEXAS plates and an Aggie Maroon Jeep Wrangler.

Cool - where in the quarter is it located?

Never mind - just googled it:

http://www.fqrv.com/index.htm

Looks like it is right up against I-10 off St. Louis, behind Louis Armstrong park. Defnitely close to the quarter, but that area may be a little dicey, I'm not sure. Others can tell more.

I wouldn't walk there from the Quarter after dark. It's outside the quarter, between the Quarter & Iberville housing projects & Treme.

It wasn't scary last year. The city my be worse now than it was last year. Take a cab to the heart of the FQ. The park is SUPER safe. The owner has hired some top shelf security personel. I mean TOP SHELF, bordering on mercenaries. I have never felt so safe sleeping in that city, and I'm from there. The place will be filled to the brim for fest, if you can still get in, it's worth a look. I used to park the coach at Tad Ghormley stadium in City Park but that is no longer available.

wonder how many people read this thread thinking it was a new brass band.

I'm surprised more threadheads aren't motorhome campers. Not sure why I am, just a little surprised.

I would listen to ibjamn, she lives in NO. I once had my car towed by NOPD and the lot they towed it to is in that area under I-10. I flagged down two NOPD cops to see if it was safe to walk. They both looked at me like I was from the moon. They said no way during the day or night. ibjamn quote: "Between Quarter & Iberville/Treme". The cops won't even go in there at night. Please, be safe! Happy JF 07!!!

We have friends who drive their RV down from Iowa every year & stay there.
About 4 miles from the Fair Grounds.

It looks like it's directly behind the old Winn Dixie.

I think because most of us can't afford motorhomes. For myself, that is true - plus I'm more of a tent-camping kind of chick . . . :)

That's right where it is.

I'm also a tent camping kind of a girl. and I get to pitch my tent in my friend's courtyard again this year. Gorgeous carriage house on St. Charles in the Garden District. One not-so-pleasant surprise though, gotta get up by 9 or you'll sweat like a suckling pig. Also, some of those evil caterpillars found their way in the tent last year. But it's free!

My idea of "roughing it" is a Holiday Inn without a mini-bar. But when we win the lottery, my husband has a big motorhome on the spreadsheet! ;)

Well, tent camping definitely isn't for everyone - which is one of the things I like about it, you can backpack to a beautiful, untouched place and not be surrounded by really loud boombox blaring folks.

Also, I guess it's just the kid in me harkening back to the pup tent in the backyard days of yore - I just LOVE sleeping in tents, even though that does have it's tradeoffs (heat, condensation, bugs, dirt, etc.)

However, for two weeks of Jazzfesting - I'm more of a stay-in-a-structure kind of chick! ;) :D

but you need transportation to & from fest. there used to be a regular bus down chef menteur (90) that got you to the fest. cabs don't seem to like to go out east.

Also know of someone who parks in someones yard off of Trafalar. Maybe 100 yards from the gate to park for the Fair Grounds. This is what I would do if I had a trailer or pop-up.

I am also from New Orleans. I wouldn't walk to the quarter from there at night either, although a family from Austraila took that walk every evening last year. They survived. I tow a jeep with my MoHo and drive that. Take a cab. FQRV park also offers a free shuttle to and from the Fairgrounds during the Fest. As for Mardi Gras RV park, try walking from there to the quarter LOL. We did our time tent camping, my wife isn't much of a poop-in-a-hole-and-bury-it kind of girl.
