Like the song "without him, there would be no show" ("The Roadie Song").

Here's a shot of one of the best (doing all of of the above jobs at once), working the monitors at Jazzfest, at http://www.flickr.com/photos/fantailmedia/3598959610/ ; last day on the Gentilly stage (just before the rain).

Much respect.

That really is a beautiful picture. I'm a sucker for B&W anyway.

I roadied for a few years. It's a hard, thankless job. The only feedback you ever get is when something goes wrong, kinda like the job I have now. I did see some incredible sights, met some fascinating people, and more than a few assholes. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing.

Yeah, I was Bryan Adams's tour manager for a year and a half, and most people have no idea what was involved. I was able to travel to all parts of the world, but I never actually saw anything!

A typical day would involve getting to the city a day before the act, checking into the hotel and going straight to the arena first thing in the morning. I would be there for the entire day, oversee the production of the show and then oversee the tear down and all of the accounting until around 3 or 4 in the morning. Repeat as required.

At the end of the day, the arena in Nagasaki isn't a whole lot different than the one in Budapest, you know? Still, I wouldn't change a thing either...

Thanks for the feedback (and to those of you who just enjoyed the image).

I've done just enough "load in/load out" to appreciate how much WORK it is to put on a show, and to have HUGE respect for the folks that do it on a daily/weekly/"what city IS this?" basis.

On a side note, if anyone hasn't seen the cell commercial (I think it's for Nextel?) titled "If Roadies Ran the World/ Airlines" (I believe), hunt it down on youtube.
