Anders ripped it up last night. He encored after more than 2 hours with a cool version of "Ohio". Guess the Neil Young bug has bit everybody! BIG crowd, as well. Great night out in New Orleans...

Anders covered "Ohio" on Bury the Hatchet, a great disc he put out with Big Chief Monk Boudreaux in '02.

That he did, chop. I really dug the entire set, Monk was in full dress on stage for a few songs and Mike Zito, who had a great opening set, joined him as well...very fun night...and as predicted, Jada and I rounded the night out at the Chart Room with Seefood and Windowman but no La Peniche, we settled on Decauter Street pizza

aww wish I read this yesterday, just got home from a couple of days in the Big Easy taking my 18 year old and his two buddies to orientation at Tulane. I was back and forth between doing Tips or seeing Eric Lindell at Rock N Bowl and I ended up choosing R N B cause I wanted to check out the new venue. I was on my own (couldn't talk the teenagers into joining me, left them on Bourbon Street after dinner at Acme. Imagine three 18yr old boys on Bourbon for the first time? I am sure they couldn't wait to get rid
of MOM  ) I loved the show and the venue but I would have tried to do both if I'd known you'd all be there.
It was a great weekend though, I am so sad every time I have to leave NO, I'd really love to live there someday.
Here's the boys last night. My son is the one in the white shirt!

So let me get this right......the MOM takes three 18 year old boys to NOLA and leaves them on Bourbon street with her blessing and you're worried about them being ready to ditch you????

Have you no clue woman? They'll be talking about how freaking awesome you are for several generations! Your music suggestions will hold unimagined weight from this day forward!

my 22 year old son is STILL pissed about the text msgs from jazzfest

As is my 27 y/o son. I kept sending lyrics to him. One of his responses was "Neil Freakin' Young? You didn't tell me he was gonna be there! You SUCK!"

I loved the show, I saw him last weekend at CFF and he played many of the same songs but I was hanging on every note yet again. I just love his music and his style and I danced the night away and was fine being there all on my own surrounded by so many happy people. It was awesome to see the new RnB, so brand spankin' new, you could smell the fresh paint. It's such a nice space. The lanes were filled, but the venue was pretty empty. I got the feeling a lot of people were there to bowl and enjoy the music but not particularly there for Eric. I was in shock to pay just $3.25 for a beer. You go see Eric Lindell at Sullivan Hall in Manhattan and it's double that! (so I drank twice as much :D ). The other fun part was what a pleasure it was to be hanging out in NO without the crowds - the only time I really get to go is during JF so this was a treat. I had a car and drove around all day Friday, I fell in love with about 100 streets. (If I win Lotto I'm buying a house on State Street between Magazine and St Charles). Normally I just see NO from a cab but I was totally psyched to ditch day 2 of parent orientation (bad mom) and hang out in NO. I drove all over uptown way up Carrolton, back to Riverbend then downtown through the FQ and to Frenchmen, then I drove out to Gentilly to drop something at Ibjammin's and drove around there, then all through Frenchmen and back to the warehouse district all the while blasting OZ on my car radio. I was just so happy to be there. Was SO tempted to do the Tipitinas show too and I would have loved to meet up and celebrate with you guys had I known! (celebrating happens to be my specialty). alas. Well with Zach in school there I will have to be coming down to visit more often so we'll have to figure it out next time.....
But happy ONE YEAR of living in NOLA to Jada. I am sure it was a great move! I have made up my mind I need to live there one day too.
Here's the only photo I took that night, crappy photo of Eric but love the new Rock and Bowl sign!

Yes, all three of those LUCKY kids are going to Tulane. I've known the kid with the Marley shirt since he and Zach were cub scouts together. He and Zach are sharing a room.
And yes, my trip timing WAS ridiculous. I told you it felt like the world was upside down when I was texting YOU that I was drinking an Abita (at The Boot) on a Thursday afternoon, (okay so I snuck out of parents orientation on the first day too) while YOU were working in NY. The God's must be crazy.
So you'll love this - when we drove passed Igors, Zach told the other guys in the car "that's where I'm gonna go to do my laundry and meet up with my moms friend Katy". It was priceless.

I believe that I am paying it forward, someday I will be in NO hearing some incredible trombone player BECAUSE I dragged that bone to NOLA this week.

Of course I insisted on carrying it on board because I didn't want it to get damaged and instead I checked my carry on bag which held all my clothes/toiletries/stuff for the weekend. And as they say...... "no good deed goes unpunished". JetBlue LOST my luggage and my checked bag didn't make it to NO with me. I had NOTHING but my pocketbook (and a trombone) for the first 24 hours! Had to buy a Tulane tee shirt and a toothbrush. But it didn't even phase me. I was so damn happy to be there that I just laughed.

Yes, they delivered it the next day so it all worked out just fine! I thought I'd at least get a free ticket out of them for the inconvienence but all they gave me was a $30 Jet Blue voucher because it was "less then 24 hours". Cheap!

I keep telling my daughter that. Her girls are 7 and 7 1/2. How did that happen?! We have to enjoy while we can and then let them go to find their way. Abitagirl, one of your crushes, MIchael Franti, wrote a song to his son a year or so ago about this next part of the journey when his son, age 20, got on a bus to head cross country to NYC.

No worries Kerry...Zach can come do his laundry at Aunt Katy's house and then we will take a break and walk to get him a burger at Igor's.

I have a feeling I will be seeing you, Stuie and family much more down in Nola on St. Charles. Lucky for me!!!!

I remember you and Stu crying when Franti played that song at JF in '08. What a moment we all had.
