From a Facebook announcement:
Just announced! HISB opens for Grace Potter & the Nocturnals! Wed June 3rd 9pm SHARP
From Honey Island Swamp Band
The band is thrilled to announce that we’ve been invited to open for our friends GRACE POTTER & THE NOCTURNALS this coming Wednesday, June 3rd, at The Parish at House of Blues in New Orleans. Not only are we long-time fans of the soul rockers from Vermont, but when they were in town for a private gig in January, our manager brought some of them out to see us blow the doors off of Le Bon Temps Roulé the night before their show…and it seems they caught a little bit of the Honey Island Swamp fever themselves, eh?
The performance starts at 9pm *SHARP*, when we take the stage for the opening set, followed by Grace & company headlining the show at 10pm. If you have seen GPN before, then we know you WILL be at this show — if you have never seen them, then you MUST come out to this show! They are simply one of the most kick-ass bands touring these days, and they are finishing up their new album, produced by the Grammy award-winning T-Bone Burnett (Robert Plant-Alison Krauss — Raising Sand). In addition, they are bringing their new outfit to town, with two new Nocturnals joining founding members Grace, Scott and Matt. Needless to say (but we’ll say it anyway!), we’re very excited to be sharing the stage with such talented and cool people. See y’all on Wednesday!!

Very Cool! Honey Island Swamp Band was one of my personal discoveries this year. I knew nothing about them but they were playing while I was setting up my fest camp that day, and I just could not stop dancing. WOund up buying their cd.

The HISB will be touring 6/20 to 6/28 from Atlanta to NYC and back to Baltimore. Dont't miss Wash DC June 26 @ the Rookery or Sullivan Hall in New York City. Much fun to be had at all the gigs, I'll wait until something west coast. Sigh....

Well, I'll tell you what...If you haven't seen this band, you are missing out. Just getting back from the 8X10 in Baltimore where the Honey Island Swamp Band opened the show. They were easily the most talented band of the night -- yes, I am biased. ;)
Do yourself a favor, if these guys get to a town near you, go see them. As I told my new boyfriend A-ron (thanks Ellen!)(kidding, of course), they were my favorite new New Orleans band of Jazz Fest '09.
Great musicianship, wonderful harmonies, and bass lines that you can shake your booty to...Honey Island Swamp Band...good stuff.
Have fun if you go :D

Same here, Neen. I had them high-lighted on my grids. Not sure how I got to the Fairgrounds on-time that day, but I was so glad to have made it. I think I came back and sat down in you r camp for a song or two, but the rest of the time I was actually stage-front and I almost never plant myself in the front row.
Good times. :D

Who did they open for? I was there the night before for my friends Talking Heads tribute band, Psycho Killers ... AFTER watching Anders kill it at Bourbon Street ... That club is very well done in my opinion
I was gonna catch HISB at fed hill blues fest on sundays, but partied myself out earlier in the weekend

Let's see, Mad Sweet Pangs and oh, Caleb Stine. I'd never heard of either of them. Both were OK.
I was tempted to head up for the Anders show, but knew that driving to B'more 2 nights in a row was not in the cards. We caught Anders at the BBQ festival in DC last night. He was SMOKIN.
I mean -- wow. They were on the blues stage which was sponsored by the DC Blues Society. From time to time one of the Society members would, when the lyrics or the guitar playing or the rhythm moved him, walk from the far left to the far right in front of the stage, swinging his arms as if he were marching while shouting "Yes!" "Yes!" "Yes!" The set was really that good. Afterwards, I was talking with Doug and he said that they kind of held back for the festival set. Of course, now I wish I had gone to see the club show.
The guys in HISB are interested in coming back this way. I'm hoping to get them in touch with the people at Iota, but I'd be more than happy to trek to Baltimore if they were playing a full show.

Laughing...:D Aaron is certainly a cutie and he can sing and he plays the mandolin and he sang a song about chocolate cake. And having heard a rumor or two about him, I was happy to finally meet and chat with him Saturday night. Hopefully, our paths will cross again sometime soon. Heck, maybe I'll friend him on FB. ;)

I can back this statement up after seeing them here in Atlanta. Having spoke to Aaron after the show I can say he is a very cool dude.

For the bassists in the house, my friend Sam Price is pictured in the new Bass Player magazine with a mention of Honey Island playing a party during Jazz Fest.

Saw HISB in NYC last Thursday...was a short 40-minute set and left ya wanting to hear a lot more. Had a brief chat with Aaron when I bought the CD. Said he hope to back this way in mid-August when they play a festival in upstate NY. He left awhile later during the headliner and made a point to say goodbye..remembered folks' names...whole bit. That kind of stuff can go a long way...easy to throw support for a band like that.
