Maybe just a teensy-weensy little bit of trad jazz? But this years lineup, with John and Paul, PGF, Tab, almost three hours of Marcia, is pretty excellent.

What a 2009 CFF! Awesome just flat out fun but I would love some Indians too!

Every other act that I saw was just outstanding. Trombone Shorty blew the house down Saturday night.

Lastly if you havent done CFF plan on 2010...this is way too cool to miss y'all

To expand...there's probably a market for this as part of CFF in the Dance Hall. I understand that there's a pretty well developed Lindy Hop and other Swing Dance community in the Northeast, and I know the Jazz Vipers (with Linnzi Zaorski) have done Lindy/Swing events in DC in the past. The CFF dance hall is a wonderful space, as suited to Swing-type events as it is to Cajun dance-hall. And it would be an additional marketing angle for the Fest as well, pulling in a demographic that might not be fully tapped.

I can tell you firsthand that there is definitely a huge Lindy/Swing community in the Northeast, and the Dance Hall would be perfect for a day of traditional New Orleans jazz. In my view, if you had a whole day of that kind of music in there, you’d see more people dancing in the CFF Dance Hall than you do at Economy Hall.

However, I think you’d probably have to have a lot of swing bands in order to make it work. I would think it might need to be an entire day of swing bands and then the other day would be Cajun music. I’m not sure if that’s a risk CFF would want to take, but regardless, here’s a thumbs-up for more traditional New Orleans jazz, ala NO Jazz Vipers, Preservation Hall, Don Vappie and the Creole Jazz Serenaders, Dr. Michael White, etc.

On my personal wish list for CFF 2010 is getting to meet more Threadheads. I had Julie introduce me to some people throughout Saturday, but in most cases, I wasn’t able to put real names to board handles, so I didn’t really know who was who. If the lineup is good, I think I’ll probably camp next year because Saturday was a great day with tons of fun.

Camping is the way to go. This year was just wonderful. Threadhead campground is large, close to everything, large areas for the kids to play and the set up Michael has for the food and beverage tent is great.

Hope you do...you meet more Threadheads that way.

How 'bout this? Trombone Shorty some times plays straight jazz, fronting the Troy Andrews Quintet. He could blow the roof off as Trombone Shorty, change hats, and blow it off again as the Troy Andrews Quintet.

Just getting back from my first CFF, but not my last. Camped out, had such a great time, sandwiched between Steeleye and Orleansnj (great place to be, I recommend it) just across from THville. I had my sister's fam in tow so we did our own food thing (but props to Brian mdfest for the spread, it looked great) and wasn't able to get over to THville as often as I would have liked. I was still able to meet and hang out with some THs I hadn't before, which was what I was hoping for, and got to know some of those I had met in before and getting real names to the faces.

Somehow, I still feel like I didn't get to talk to everyone I wanted...

Hey Groovy, if you were sportin' the same hat on Sat as you are in your avatar pic, I saw you from afar a couple of times... next time.

On my CFF wishlist is a return appearance by.....Me :p I know how much of a blast this gig is and only living in New Orleans could possibly come close to the substitute.
As far as acts; I would love to see Anders (maybe with the trio he plays with at Chickiewahwah which is John Fohl and Johnny Sansone). Seguenon and the Fatien ensemble would be great as well. Some of the other TH record artists such as Nightcrawlers perhaps. I know this is way over the top hoping but would love to see Warren Haynes in any kind of setting but not sure how much of a dent that would put in the budget.

I wish that Michael/the Sussex County Fairgrounds and Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues/the city of Red Bank can work it out to have their festivals on different weekends every year! It was fun being able to go both days this year.

Unfortunately, the way the schedules are now, I think that only happens when June 1st is a Monday. So as long as I have my store in Red Bank, the next time I can go to CFF all weekend is 2015

Hey Groovy, if you were sportin' the same hat on Sat as you are in your avatar pic, I saw you from afar a couple of times... next time.

'twas me indeed.

Depending on when you saw me, I was either stuffing my face or nearly collapsing from dancing too fast!

I'm sorry we didn't get to meet groovy....I was right next to the Dance Hall, and easy to recognize by name!;) :D

I'm sorry, too. I did briefly look around for your balls, but obviously, I didn't find them. Searching for balls is not my forte. ;)

I was only in the Dance Hall for a few minutes during the Pine Leaf Boys. They played a swingin' number that didn't seem to end, and my friend and I had a long dance to a song that was a little too fast for us. Thinking I was going to die, I came stumbling out of the hall when it ended, desperately searching for a defibrillator, so I'm sure you can understand why I missed you.

Man, I had no idea that Crawfish Fest was this much fun. And I'm sure that Crawfish Fest with all of you guys has to be 100 times more fun. I'd always been a Mountain Jam guy, but I think I've been converted. Next year you can count me in!

Yup, me too. With a name like "Inspirational Choir of Harlem" and a Sunday morning time slot, I had assumed they were a straight-up gospel group. But gospel groups don't usually cover songs like "Love the One You're With". So, a surprise, for sure. Nonetheless, I enjoyed that set a lot.

Loved that set too. Purchased it from Digitalsoundboard and listened to it today while driving across the state to and from court. Sounded just as great as it sounded live and helped keep me in a good mood despite some very heavy lifting required for w*rk right now and for the next few months. Very nice to re-live that memory. Not often that you can capture the energy of a gospel tent set, but this one does very well.

As for the covers, keep in mind that it wasn't just the choir; it was "Matt Angus Thing with Anthony Morgan’s Inspirational Choir of Harlem." I loved the covers of "The Weight," "Southbound" and "Turn on Your Lovelight" too. Kind of reminded me of the Staples Singers or Blind Boys of Alabama, both of whom have done plenty of "lay" covers.

Hard to imagine a better line up than this years. The camper's shows were amazing sets. Four, count 'em four of the fourteen kids that came with us came home with trombones from school the next week. Big Sam crushed them the hardest. I'd say the biggest surprise for the Point Krewe was J.J. Grey. The guy made the show seem like it was in a small club, fantastic.
Aside from my usual plee to see Dumpstaphunk at CFF, I'd like to add a request for the Tinmen. Matt, Chaz and Alex would be great fun. Also, I gotsta have some George Porter Jr.!
It was nice to meet the TH I got to meet. Any of you all going to see Trombone Shorty and Irma for free on the Mall in DC this Sunday?
Any body that would like can friend me on Facebook to see a few pic's of Big Sam with the kids, Peace - Bob Adamek

Henri Smith!!!

We had the pleasure of seeing him last night. As Jane said because of K, Nola's loss is our gain. He relocated to the north shore of Mass. It's a pleasure to have some true New Orleans music in the local area.

He still has a great voice and an even greater stage personna. He did many of the classic songs and would most definitely get the crowd going in the Jaeger tent. Given some of the talent that has played with him over the years, I can't think of a better endorsement.

Someone had brought up 60 pounds of crawfish and he and some of his friends had a big cookout before the show.

For any of you who knew him before he was forced to leave, he is still around and still performing, and he still follows the music scene there.

Hey Mike, if you thinking of giving this swinging Jazz Day some legs, "Hot Club of Cowtown (http://www.hotclubofcowtown.com/)" would be a great addition. And I saw Rick Trolsen and the Po Boys get the Lindy Hoppers dancing up a storm at FQF as well.

My Jambalaya Mix is now in production. The Labels are printed and headed to the blending plant for the mix to be packaged.

I am planning table service under the eating tent for boiled crawfish. After you sit down with your 1st plate, simply raise a hand and someone will bring you more crawfish, just pay as you go. Beer also will be available if you’re eating crawfish at the tables.

At the new Uptown Bar, we will have table service for Raw Oysters and drinks

I hope you do make it. Very easy fest with kids. Lots of Threadheads (me included) bring kids and have a kinda on the edge "campers with kids" section.

Easy to mozy over to the Threadhead tent to hang with friends.

I think Michael is speaking about talent, not vendors. They are in place for 2010. At least that is what I gathered from his posts on FB.

Linda knows Tracy, loves her hats. I want my saddle girl at CFF but I guess maybe in 2011.

'twas me indeed.

Depending on when you saw me, I was either stuffing my face or nearly collapsing from dancing too fast!

Thanks for the kind words, a few confirms are coming soon

And better yet, with "Stanton Moore the Drumming Whore" playing there with Galactic on Sunday, the possibilities for him to hop on stage with others (coughcoughpapagrowsfunkcoughcough) are excellent.

Is it possible to have FOMS before the cubes come out? Even if some of these bands do 2 sets, as has been the case in the past, it's hard to imagine how I won't be missing some great stuff. I think I'm suffering from pre-FOMS.

Already too much for one person to enjoy. I am glad I'll be there with a whole village of friends.

Only two things I can think could it make it better:

1) Bring back the bones for the fourth year in a row.
and/or
2) Just keep doing what you doing.

Of course, I have this fantasy of convincing the Po'Boy festival people to bring that show on road as well, but that is just the result of my hunger talking or rather dreaming after reading another thread.

Eating boiled crawfish while listening to the best set of bands from Louisiana that ever left that state all at the same time...while in a very pleasant area of New Jersey...within a village of very cool people, who think camping is about never forgetting to bring the espresso machine, the jello shots and the other shared delicacies...

If I hadn't been there three times already, I'd think that was an impossible dream itself
