We're thinking about a short trip south in August for this music festival...
Anyone been? Any thoughts, suggestions?
Thanks!

I used to go when it was in the gaslamp and they had a more diverse lineup. I haven't been since they moved it to Qualcomm then Coors (now Cricket Amp). Now they hold it near Petco park in the east village in a parking lot. Thier lineup tends to be more Alternative/Emo these days.
That said, if you like any of the bands playing. Please come down to San Diego. Last year, I went to a "surprise" after St. Scene party gig that featured Franti & Spearhead. There were less than 200 people there. It was awesome.
I suggest coming down here on Sept 12th. There might be a show that you will enjoy at a much more intimate setting!;)

Same here...We (DJGriff, me, and a few others) went twice years ago when it was in the Gas Lamp District and had a blast. The line up's used to range from the Iguanas to X and everything in between. I'm still on their mailing list and I think this year's line up is probably one of the better one's that they've had recently (IMHO). I didn't know that they had moved the location. That's kind of a bummer. What kind of Street Scene do you see if it's not held on the streets? =)

This just got leaked:
http://sdheadliner.com/events/2009-street-scene-festival-to-take-place-in-sizzler-parking-lot/
ESCONDIDO — Today it was announced that San Diego’s annual Street Scene Festival — formerly one of the nation’s largest music festivals — will take place in the parking lot of the Escondido Sizzler.
The venue downgrade was caused by a recent survey which revealed that San Diegans are willing to only spend $6 on tickets this year because of the recession. As a result of lowering the ticket price, the best venue that the Street Scene Commission could afford was the Sizzler parking lot.
Also, since the festival will be taking in significantly less money, the quality of the bands performing will suffer. Music fans across San Diego are already expressing their anger about the lineup.
“This is even worse than the Qualcomm parking lot fiasco of 2005,” said one disappointed music fan.
If there’s one silver lining, it’s that during the intermission, the entire audience will be allowed to enter the Sizzler, where they can purchase a dinner at 10% off the usual price.
Line Up:
Frankie & the Franktones
Mira Mesa High School Marching Band
Leaf Blower Orchestra
Creed
Mishapen Rectangle
Odor Milk
Nickelback
The Piano Player Guy From Nordstrom

CE, I dont know what your musical tastes run towards, but both ModestMouse and Thievery Corporation are both great live bands, and usually put on really high energy shows.......
The rest of the lineup is mostly unknown to me, but shucks, I live in U-taw, so what the hell do I know?
If you do end up going down, I hope you have a great time!!!

Actually, I saw Modest Mouse when they opened for Tom Petty a few years back; let's just say my tastes ran/run MORE towards Tom Petty than MM!

When I flew down to Austin City Limits Festival a couple of years back, Tom Petty, ModestMouse and Thievery Corporation were all on the line up, and I enjoyed each band, though they all have very distinct sounds.........
