Anyone know the name of the sort of calypso sounding song she did with Big Sam at IAC? I'd never heard it before but it was one of my favorite moments of the week...

This is getting to be comical. Same thing happened to us when we saw her last year at the Old Point, and I'll bet it was the same song. My buddy and I have asked several people since and have scoured her albums for it without success; and I'm almost certain someone else posted a similar inquiry after seeing her Fest set this year. Guess she should record that one...
Hey, great avatar pic btw. I took a photo of that shot at the fairgrounds this year too, and then I bought the Michael Smith book where it was originally published. Funny to think that that kid was the artist featured on this year's Congo Square poster.

Heh, figures. I looked around for it a bit and almost convinced myself that the lateness of the hour had an effect on my memory of the song. It's a little comforting to know that I'm not alone in the search :)
I hear ya about the difference in the shawty images. His set at IAC blew me away, and after having witnessed that performance I'm not sure the Congo Square poster really captures his spirit. I'd love to see him tour as a duo with the tambourine lady. Awesome.
Methinky I need to investigate this book of which you speak...

Might as well get Jazz Fest Memories too; it has later years, color photographs (unusual for Smith) and some nice writing by Allison Minor. I finally picked up both this year, the hard cover at LMF, and JFM at that great little bookstore on Frenchmen. I was looking for his new one, In The Spirit, but they had just sold out. After some strong hints I think Mrs. Lit and my girls have bought for me for Father's Day, but I'm not supposed to know that...

Yes, I was referring to the passage of time.
