Just freaking awesome.

I spent this evening at my local bar, with a friend of mine who had his daughter and her roommate in town. The girls work and live in Washington DC. They flew into New Orleans because it's much cheaper than flying into Mobile, and spent Thursday there. The roomie had never been in the South before.

They wandered down Frenchmen Street, and lamented that the Spotted Cat was closed (they had heard about it, somehow.) They ended up in some bar where they found a goat tied up outside, and a bunch of people dressed like fairries and elves inside. I don't know what the occasion was, but it sounds like a New Orleans moment to me.

They return to New Orleans Monday to spend the day & fly back to DC Tuesday. They are planning to eat at Jacques-Imo's and then go to the Maple Leaf. I'm assuming Papa Gros Funk will be playing. They'll have a great time, and I'm jealous.

Ghosts, boats, floats and goats: that city has it ALL!

Dag, your friends need to call Jacque-Imo's and make sure they are open. My assistant and her family had planned on going there this week and when they showed up tonight it was closed, along with Matt and Naddie's. I seem to remember having a similar problem on Memorial and Labor Day weekend in the past.
