Fourth and Goal, 5 Seconds on the Clock, City Park Needs Your Help to Win $50,000
5/19/09
City Park is one of five national finalists in a contest presented by Redwood Creek Wines. The winner will receive $50,000. At City Park, the funds will be used for tree planting and improvements to Couturie Forest. The winner will also be featured in a national advertising campaign! Voting concludes on May 31st.
In order to win, residents have to vote for City Park. Folks can vote twice each day: once online at http://www.blazethetrail.com/greatoutdoors/vote/ and once via text by texting PARK to 39668. You can vote online once per 24 hours with voting reset at midnight EST. You can also vote via SMS once per 24 hours, however voting by SMS resets 24 hours from when you cast your vote.
We are currently in second place but momentum is on our side. Three weeks ago we trailed the first place contestant by 2,500 votes. Two weeks ago we were behind by 2,000 votes. Today we have narrowed the gap to only 800 votes. WE CAN WIN THIS FOLKS!
How to help:
1. Vote yourself each day. Voting once helps, but if the park is to win we need people to vote each day.
2. Talk to the president of your company or the appropriate decision maker and ask them to get the word out to all your employees. If we could get more employers to encourage/require their employees to vote each day we’d leave the other contestants in the dust!

BUMPIN FOR THE PARK!
Just so you know, you have to register with the Winery before you can vote, so use your spam address. Of course, promotions from a winery might not be too much to bear for this group. I was hoping for samples but all they are offering is posters and of course, 50K for City Park!:cool:

Also, when you register there's a place where you can unselect the "send me spam" default. I haven't gotten anything beyond the first authorization email, but then it's only been 3 days...
I did look around the site and found some interesting things. Here's a spring roll recipe that looks pretty good.
Ingredients:
* 8 8-inch round spring roll wrappers
* 8 ounces fresh or frozen cooked, peeled and deveined shrimp, coarsely chopped (1-1/3 cups)
* 1 small head Bibb lettuce, cored and shredded (2 cups)
* 1 cup shredded carrots (2 medium)
* 1/4 cup sliced green onions (2)
* 2 tablespoons snipped fresh cilantro
* 5 tablespoons purchased peanut dipping sauce
* 2 tablespoons seasoned rice vinegar
Directions
1. Place some warm water in a shallow dish. Dip each spring roll wrapper in warm water; place between damp paper towels for 10 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, for filling, in a large bowl combine shrimp, lettuce, carrots, green onions, and cilantro. Add 2 tablespoons of the peanut dipping sauce and 1 tablespoon of the rice vinegar. Toss to coat.
3. For the dipping sauce, in a small bowl stir together the remaining 3 tablespoons peanut sauce and 1 tablespoon rice vinegar; set aside.
4. Place about 1/2 cup of the filling about 1/2 inch from the bottom edge of 1 of the moistened spring roll wrappers. Fold the bottom edge of the wrapper over the filling. Fold in sides. Roll up. Repeat with remaining filling and spring roll wrappers. Cut in half; serve with dipping sauce. Makes 4 servings (8 rolls)

They also ask a lot of nosy none-of-their-business questions, as well.

Remember it is by ip address so the more computers you have the more votes. Thanks everyone who has voted to help City Park. The park is my neighborhood park now and they have a wide variety of things already going on. This will help greatly to help restore it to its pre-Katrina state.

Some of the supporters of the other causes are starting to jump on the AZ trail bandwagon.
I'd hate to see the money wasted on a Park in New Orleans that might get devastated by another hurricane in the future.....I'm all for CWF, but now I'm voting for AZ trail!!!
