I promised a friend from work that I would write her a song about missing home while having a great time at Jazzfest, and 2 weeks later I'm staring at an empty sheet of paper and strumming the same 3 chords. I promised her I would sing it for her at lunch tommorow and am totally stuck.

C'mon, be a Threadhead.......oh crap, that's already taken!

List your favorite things about Jazz Fest and New Orleans, rhyme a few and viola' you got a song. I know it's not that easy, but we are not talking Grammy material here, are we?
If the Ramones can do it using three chords, so can you (although I do like the Ramones;) )

Well, just pretend that if you do well at it, you'll win a date with Bret Michaels . . . and I'm sure the words will just flow, Jonny. ;) :)

NEER NEER NEER NEER.....Great way to start it. " We miss the Neer neer neer, la la la la la la"

We will finish it at CFF.

It's supposed to be things you miss about home, not your favorite things about Fest, right? If so, I'm not gonna be much help about what you miss about IL; but here's a possible construct for you:

Festin', But Not Forgettin'

Oh I'm Festin'
But not forgettin'
The things I love 'bout you

Oh I'm Festin'
But not forgettin'
The things that make you true

I miss your pizza, your hockey, your cold-yet-warm embrace
I miss all I miss about ya', 'though I'm in a better place
I'm at the Jazz Fest, the Nawlin's Jazz Fest
A most beautiful-yet-crazy place
And please don't be distracted that I'm stuffing my face
[with Cochon de Lait]

[Refrain]

I'm eatin' crawfish, and ersters, and gumbo, jambalaya too
But I miss ya', I really miss ya'
Honest, I really do
I'm seeing music, the world's best music,
Played out on the world's best stages
But I miss ya', I really miss ya'
'Cause in my heart you're for the ages

[Refrain]

So please forgive me,
If I don't sound it
But I miss you more than ever
And in case you,
Didn't believe me
I wrote this song
Now ain't that clever?

Reminds me of a festival I went to here in Memphis in the early eighties. It was a multi-stage thing, and I was up close to see a band on one of the smaller stages. It was Robin Lane & the Chartbusters. She apparently was saving on her underwear budget and went commando that day under her sundress. As I was sitting in the first couple of rows, it was difficult to avoid.

Rock and Roll legend has it that Neil Young wrote Cinnamon Girl about Robin Lane.

In the Popeyes Tent
I'm singing the Blues
You're back in Chicago
And I miss my muse

At the Acura Stage
I scream rock and roll
But the miles between us
Are taking their toll

Second lining with Eddie
In Economy Hall
I'm dancing and strutting
Yet missing y'all

The Gospel Tent fills
With voices of praise
And I'll be home soon
I'm counting the days

Hearing the beat
Coming from Congo Square
I can't help but wish
For you with me there

I need a dance partner
Down at Fais Do Do
Promise me next year
Together, we'll go

Notably, the central figure in that story was also singing the blues in the blues tent. Hmmmm...

babyzyde = specialed = swag?

Or maybe Swag was just inspired by the babyzyde/specialed story because he was "in the room" at the time. Does that make Swag Paul Simon to babyzyde's Steve Berlin? Robbie Robertson to his Levon Helm?

It's not a competition here. If it was, I might have taken more time than the 7 minutes or so it took me to write my initial "song." I think the only proper test is if Jonny used either one, and, if he did, whether it "worked" for him.
