Welcome! Lots of good ideas here. The first place I would start is reading the various topics concerning all of the things you mention. Found below are threads concerning parties, housing, and all sorts of things. There are several more pages of threads, and if you post to them asking a question, they'll pop to this page. You might also tell us a little about yoursdlf on the 'Introduce yourself' thread at the top of this page. If you have a specific question, feel free to start a thread about it. Lots of fun and info here. Glad to have ya!

In addition, I can recommend visiting http://www.jazzfestgrids.com/ (http://jassfestgrids.com/) to find out about activities in the evenings, days between, in-store performances etc.

Lots of good stuff and good people hanging around here. :D

Welcome gfm! Come meet us at Ms. Lena's beer tent during fest. Times will be set after the cubes come out.

Hi gfm.

Around the track area, right after Fest, the biggest is probably at Liuzza's. Just a big old street party, hundreds of folks hanging out in the street, having a beverage, and reflecting on the day of Fest. Sometimes a band playing nearby. Go right one block out of the exit by the Jazz Tent, left 2 blocks, and there you are.

Number two is Shell Fest. That's at the Shell gas station on the corner of Esplanade and the Bayou, a few more blocks west of Liuzza's. That's more of a Bourbon Street atmosphere. Non-festy DJ music, limbo contests, and the like.

Last year, some search engine company rented a yard just 2 houses down from the Jazz Tent gate, and had Brotherhood of Groove playing right after Fest. That was cool. No idea if there will be something similar this year, but check back here and you'll be in the know.

Or, skip all these. The sooner you're back at the hotel, the quicker you can be showered and ready to hit the dozens of night shows that happen every night. Check jazzfestgrids.com for those.

Hi GFM and welcome!!! This forum is absolutely the best. It is really nice to communicate with others who feel exactly the way you do and share in the excitement that is Jazz Fest, and New Orleans. The fest is addicting, and as you say, you never want to miss another one. You're truly in the right place here! I started going one year, and had such a blast, that I said I have got to go next year. And then it was....there's no way I'm going to miss this again. This is just as good as it gets! Also, thanks to this forum, my fest experience has expanded....it's not just the fest, but the other events and things that I wasn't even aware of, that I will now be attending. I mean, I knew about the other shows in between, but there is just so much to do during that period, you can't see it all. But thanks to this board, it's easier to make some decisions on what to do and see, and guarantee a fantastic time. Welcome, and look forward to meeting you.

Welcome GFM,

For the last 9 years my body seems to take itself directly to Liuzza's after fest. I feel like I am missing something if I don't go. Many great people and they have great bloody mary's as well!

See you there or at Ms. Lena's! :)

I have my friend, STLBarb, to thank for taking me to my first fest in 2000. I always wanted to go before but my silly-ass ex didn't. I haven't missed one yet. It's addicting for sure. And I knew about some of the stuff going on at night and on the daze between, but this forum will introduce you to a lot more. My calendar is getting beaucoup filled up. Welcome "abored".

reading & pre-planning is a good idea and will get you all psyched. but be flexible & nosey. new friends (people you're next to in line or at a stage) may tell you about a party or gig that has not been publicized. or you may overhear folks talking about a show - ask them for more info - most will be happy to share their knowledge
