NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Two shootings within seven hours killed two people and injured seven more, two of them critically, New Orleans police said.
Three were shot in a car parked near the Industrial Canal in the Ninth Ward about 6:45 p.m. Thursday. About 1:30 a.m. Friday, a shooting in a Mid-City nightclub wounded six people, one critically.
The survivor of the first shooting — the car's driver — told police that he knew and had given a ride to the man who shot them, Sgt. Joe Narcisse, a police spokesman, said Friday.

"That let us know this was not just some random act of violence," Narcisse said.
He said that man, who was shot multiple times and whose name was not released, remained in critical condition Friday.
The other two men were shot once each in the head, Officer Sabrina Richardson, a police spokeswoman, said Thursday. Their bodies did not carry any identification; the car had Texas license plates, police said.
Narcisse said that just before the nightclub shooting, police were notified of a disturbance. Shooting started and most of the 150 patrons rushed out as the officers were walking in.
Four victims, including a man who had been shot in the head, were in the bar; two more were found later. They included four men and two women; the other five injuries all were minor.
The gunman got out in the stampede of patrons.
The bar does have security cameras, but police do not know yet if the shooting was caught on tape, Narcisse said.
Mayor Ray Nagin went to the Ninth Ward crime scene Thursday night and talked to neighborhood residents but would not talk to reporters.
"I am deeply saddened that our young people continue dying in our streets," he said in a written statement released later. "As I continue to work to address the systemic problems that have plagued our criminal justice system for decades, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of addressing educational and social problems that have plagued our community for just as long. ... We must all work together and unify as a community to save our children from
