I know it sounds crazy but to use Airline miles and hotel points I wanted to plan. Next year 4/30 is Friday. Based on history will that be the 2nd week of JazzFest?

Thanks in advance

When I get back from Crawfish Fest...I am saving every nickle, dime and quarter...so I dont get in the same boat as this last one.

I wanna say I am coming no matter...

Aloha,

2010 will be my first trip to both the JF as well as NO. Got tons of questions so that I don't make a rookie mistake. I will be checking out the forum and asking my questions over the next several months. Does anyone know when they announce the list of artist?

Aloha,
Tom

Aloha, Tom, and welcome. We love to answer questions, esp questions of our jazzfest virgins. :D Be sure to check out http:/jazzfest.swagland.com. Many of your questions will be answered there. I think the list of artists is announced around the end of February and then in late march, we get the actual cubes, which are the schedules for each day of fest. Someone else will be able to give you exact dates. There are the jazzfest grids too, which list all the nights shows at the clubs. The fest runs from 11am to 7pm each day. You can see past cubes at swag's site and probably last year's nighttime shows at www.jazzfestgrids.com How long do you get to visit New Orleans? There's plenty to do on the daze between the 2 weekends if you can manage more than a few days in nola.

Welcome Tom! Good that you are starting early, because there is so much you have to learn. Give Swagland.com a thorough look, it is by far the most comprehensive JazzFest guide there is. Take a look at threadheads.org as well to see what our community here is up to during Fest and throughtout the year. We love to answer questions, ask away!

Thanks. I am hoping to come out a couple of days before the first weekend, Drive up to Memphis and Nashville during the week, and then back down for the second weekend and stay a couple of days after. Still planning, that might change.

We have a Threadhead in memphis, staxsun, who can give you plenty of guidance there. If you are a lover of the blues, you may want to stop in clarksdale, mississippi, on your way to memphis.

If you're gonna do that long a trip, consider doing Memphis & Nashville before or after fest, and staying in NOLA between Jazzfest weekends. There's a lot of great stuff happening those three days, including Piano Night, the Ponderosa Stomp, Instruments a Comin, Wednesday at the Square, Chazfest, in-store performances...

Gotta recommend the book "the blues highway" by Richard Knight for anyone doing that drive. I'm doing it in Oct. B4 VOW fest & it's been a great help in planning. Perhaps I'll need to pick Staxsun's brain before my weekend in Memphis??

And I have to put in my usual plug for Blues Traveling by Steve Cheeseborough as the must-have bible for a Delta tour.
