Watcha thought about the set? He may be 65 and not in the best of health but he played like he was in his 20's. It was the first time seeing him in like 20 or 25 years, I guess, but it was with Mason Ruffner.

I've heard rumors that Johnny couldn't play anymore, due to health issues, had to find out.
Couldn't really tell, blues tent sound is so friggin' muddy
Played like he was in his 20s???!??? I doubt you saw him back then. In his day he was one of the greatest blues guitarists ever (much preferred him to Clapton) Last time I saw him in 1987, he was still improving.
What I saw at JF was mediocre at best. Check out his first 2 records!

Johnny Winter smoked Saturday!!! Best set for weekend #1!!!
I've been a fan since the 70s and Johnny was near the top of his
game on Saturday! Some camrea crew stopped me as I walked into
the gates and asked who was my must see for the day.
Well, Johnny Winter of course.

I'm with you, Fred. Johnny's set rocked, and I didn't think there was anything wrong with the sound in the back of the tent. Of course my hearing is damaged from years of rock-n-roll abuse....
I will say that the sound outside the tent wasn't so hot - way too much bass - but when I got inside, it sounded much better.

Gawd, I loved Mason Ruffner, whatever happened to him!!
Anyway, we thought Johnny Winter was Freakin amazing! We were in the 3rd row & had gotten there before John Mooney to get that place. The sound was good and his playing was magic!!

Glad everyone else enjoyed Johnny. I have to admit I only hung out for about 2 songs. I was sitting in the bleachers in back, just shows how everyone's ears are different. (I have some hearing loss due to working in steel shops) In fact someone said sound was bad outside, exact opposite for me; it sounded good outside to my ears.
So where is the best sound mix in Blues Tent? Closeup? I don't usually want to fight thru the crowd to get up there....

Gracias, Tejas Fred
I feel so""with it" now....
Do people still use that expression?
Recalls a minor story...
Back in 1969 my buddy & I hitched from East Coast to California, dropped in on my aunt, uncle & cousins in LA... after first INSISTING we both take showers, my aunt told us, "You kids are so with it nowadays"

Nice! After all of the good things that have happened for him since, this new CD makes me wonder if Johnny was on the fence about doing Crossroads when it was first offered. It's very cool to see a newer generation of blues-rockers kickin' down some kibble for Johnny the way he helped Muddy on I'm Ready & Hard Again. I'm a sucker for hero come-back stories!

Glad to hear JW is sounding good. It flashed across my screen he was playing on my 55th birthday in Jnuary so i snagged a couple of tix. Haven't seen him since the mid 70's for $3 at Merriweather Post Pavillion. remember the screamin' slide and the hot women dancing on stage wih him. He had some erotic moves with the neck of that guitar ( I was 17,18 or so) . Heard him on NPR interview recently and he was very entertaining.
