I'd really like to see this show but last year I was miserable from the bar being to crowded. I thought it was pretty absurd. Is this show destined to be the same this year? I can't imagine people wanting to deal with that again. I want to go but am going to feel foolish if the same scenario occurs.

I'd rather pay more money to get in the venue than to fight the crowds.

What are some other good Sunday night options?

looks like Howlin' Wolf would be a good alternative

but you'll find me at Tips

I am also in this boat, but feel that I will get the strongest, funkiest brew that the night will offer at the Howlin' Wolf, with MUCH more room to get down and groove than Tips provides.

I mean really, when you look at it; Zigaboo, George Porter, John Gros, Stanton Moore, Mark Mullins, Russ Batiste.......... What an amazing lineup of the New Orleans funk mafia's heaviest hitters. This all for just 25 bucks, in a venue that has at least twice the space of Tipitinas.

I have not ticketed for this show yet (as in the past its never been an issue) but I feel it will be the perfect way to cap my Jazzfest experience!!!

Had a great time at last year's show up in the balcony hanging over the railing straight back from the stage. Myself, Duende and his wife, and Jazzy Keb and friend. Not too crowded and plenty of room to wander and cool off with fellow Threadheads saving your place. Looked pretty tight down below though.

didn't mind the crowd last year that much, but the 2.5 hr set break and sound prob's were disconcerting...

as for options, bonerama>maple leaf all star jam sounds like fun and the shorty/drummer cometh already mentioned. those would be my other choices.

Anyone know if I'd be buy advance tix (i.e. Rendezvous and Drummer Cometh) at the Wolf on Wednesday afternoon? Or is the box office only open after the sun goes down?

Last years 2.5 hour set break was the deal breaker for my krewe. I love Dumpstaphunk. Saw them recently, they are absolutely FILTHY right now! But for my $:
Zigaboo, Stanton, Batiste with Porter holding down the Bass line is just too much to pass up. The rest of the lineup is an incredible bonus. See ya @ the Wolf.

I did not really notice the CRUSH last year, but I did indeed notice the shitty sound and the long setbreak as others have pointed out. I think the wolf show looks tasty, but pound for pound i would much rather see a band at tips than at the howling wolf...plus, i would rather see a touring band with guests than a bunch of dudes i really like, but all just coming together to jam for one night...

so i will be at the dphunk. getting phunky.

I heard Dumpstaphunk sold out yesterday. I was there last year too, and it was miserable. I can't imagine it being as bad as last year, but how can you pass up what's going on at the Wolf? Porter, Zigaboo, Stanton, Russell Batiste, Mark Mullins, John Gros, June Yamagishi, Trombone Shorty all on one ticket? When will this ever happen again?

First of all - I wasnt at Tips last year, not this year and who knows next year. A lot of folks say that last year was terrible, but then again, the 2007 concert is a classic. Will last year be repeated or will 2007 be repeated? This year the DP concert seems a bit more structured, and, most important, DP have already done two shows which means that they probably will have the chance to recharge the battery before Sunday 3 May.

But, then again, I have some preferences, right Bart? BTW - sneaked out for a terrific jazz concert in Cuba - Roberto Fonseca. The level of musicianship on that island es increible!

You are lucky to hear that cuban music up close Auden.

And yea, I guess I'll pull the trigger on this show. I don't want to regret it.

I went by the wolf the other day to buy tickets for the Royal Family Ball, the guy working the box office said that they open at 12pm, so I am sure that you could go by in the afternoon.

i'm kinda torn. i've been doing zig for years for the last sunday at the wolf. i've always liked that everyone seemed to end up here at some point. i have tix at tips, but i got them before i saw the drummer lineup. I may be convinced to trade if anyone's interested.

Thanks, LadySoul! Someone from the Wolf just returned my voicemail, and he confirmed that, yes, the box office is open at noon. He made it sound like neither the Rendezvous nor Drummer Cometh were in imminent danger of selling out, and that I'll be fine planning on getting them tomorrow afternoon, but he added that demand obviously picks up later in the week and that it's wise to not wait to get them (and to get them at the box office, if possible, to avoid added-on charges).
