This may have been discussed previously, but has anyone been to the The Studio at Colton?

Is it like a music studio? A bar? Is beer/liquor served?

Anyone have info on this venue?

I have some details for you...
The Studio At Colton at 2300 St. Claude Avenue, is a post-Katrina grass-roots conversion project of an old public school. Through the sweat of the residents, classrooms have been renovated into artist studios space and there is public assembly space including a 1000 capacity theater with a large built-in stage. It has a large open space in front of the stage and some theatre style seating toward the back. The Prospect 1 International Art Biennial featured some events and exhibits there and it is where Krewe du Vieux held their Mardi Gras Ball this year. It is located on the burgeoning St. Claude arts corridor that has generated a good bit of development interest from the artistic and real estate communities. It is walking distance from famed Frenchmen Street and on a major bus line (and 1 block from the Hi-Ho Lounge).

The venue is being used by Backbeat Presents to do shows for the first time. There are 2 rooms. The Studio at Colton and The Red Room.

Below are the shows and further show details.

Kinda wondering that myself, KY. I'm probably going no matter what on Thurs, but I'm still curious what the vibe is like over there. Sounds cool, just haven't heard from many who have been.

Yes,most of us the jordans fans.perhaps, you may love jordan shoes (http://www.jordans-cheap.com/) but it's hard to for you to pay one pair of jordan shoes (http://www.jordans-cheap.com/) with the high prices . All of the true fans of the air jordan sneakers understand what it's like to stand in a line with hundreds of other people at the mall at 3 in the morning, waiting for the shoe store to open up so you can get your hands on the first pair of jordan shoes. cheap jordan shoes Often hard for you found for a pair of cheap air jordan shoes (http://www.jordans-cheap.com/) can get old really fast, no matter how great these cheap shoes (http://www.jordans-cheap.com/) are or how much you like them. So looking to buy cheap jordan shoes (http://www.jordans-cheap.com/) can soon become a necessity for the real Jordan fan.
Thats great marketing. I can't tell you how many times I see people wearing Air Jordans @ the Fairgrounds. I really can't tell you because I have yet to see it!

Kinda wondering that myself, KY. I'm probably going no matter what on Thurs, but I'm still curious what the vibe is like over there. Sounds cool, just haven't heard from many who have been.

We went last Friday night - they have two performance rooms, a big auditorium with a stage, and a smaller room called the Red Lounge. In the auditorium, they've removed the first 10-15 rows of seats for standing/dancing, but there are still plenty of old theater-style seats in the back. The Red Lounge is smaller, with maybe 15-20 cocktail-style tables with 3 or 4 chairs at each one. There is a bar in each room, and food was being served as well (though I didn't realize that until we were about ready to leave).

This is a new venue, and not completely organized yet, but has great potential - they just need some paying customers and a little experience to work out all the details. The Seth Walker Band and The Iguanas both sounded great in the big auditorium but there were only a handful of people in there to hear them. The sound in the Red Lounge was fine too. The place had a pretty laid-back vibe going, with a nice friendly crowd. It is also a non-smoking venue, which is nice (for me). I will definitely go back - I believe Paul Sanchez and the Rolling Roadshow are playing the Red Lounge there on Saturday night.....

(THIS POST IS MR FnG I made any spelling errors)
We did Sat and the venue is very cool. The crowd was small The veggie burritos were top notch (Iris resturant). That was the only food.
The red room was nice and had small tables. It allowed Alex Mcmurry to show case his voice.
We got to see the artist gallery which is used as the green room for the shows. Nice art work. There is a gift shop with art work.
.
The brass band was over powering but Groupo Fantasma was very good.
The main area will be great for MMW.
Paul at the red room will also be great get there early for a close table.
The bathrooms are unisex and it is an old school.Very cool that the have old MG float items like the fema tweedle dee and dumb, hillary, blue dog and others.
The artist and skilled trade concept is great and the structure has potential.

Now you're gonna have to explain that BK comment. I wasn't eatin' there, just waitin'.
Yes, it was great seeing you and meeting Morikeba ... and hearing you all.
Wish I could get back for second weekend, but, alas...
