Hey Now Friends---I know that there are still a few of us getting ready to head on down......
When are you leaving? Got everything squared away, or are there still a million little details to nail down? Is the anticipation as huge for you as it is for me? Finally, are you ready to fully immerse yourself in the sheer joy and musical magic that only the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival can deliver?????
Safe travels, and I hope to see you all starting on tuesday!!!

We're on a 6am flight out of NY on Wednesday, touching down in NO at 10:45. Picking up the rental, then straight to the Arena to pick up our tix, then to the liquor store for supplies, check in at the Hilton, then heading to Elizabeths to "open" the weekend. AND then....to Ms. Jolies for a party on the bayou. I'm on vacay from work already, packing today....
I LOVE the anticipation, I'm buzzing inside.

Wednesday morning early - already packed!
Concluded another successful round of baking experiments yesterday. Bailey's and Rhum have been transferred to their respective flasks, and finished laundry to pack. Leave at the crack of dawn on Wednesday. With any luck, I should make it to the park for Marcia.

Johnl - You mean Friday? Not sure how "hidden" these are, but if I were going to be there (sadly, not), I would make sure to catch John Scofield and the Piety Street Band, with the great jazz/fusion/rock/funk guitarist leading a band of mostly New Orleans musicians (George Porter, Jr. and Jon Cleary are on the CD; not sure if they'll play with him that day) in a set of gospel-blues music. For me, and other jazz fans, Sco is a brilliant guitarist, kind of in the big 3 of today's best jazz- or jazz-rooted guitarists, along with (IMO) Pat Metheny and Bill Frisell. (Personally, I'd put John Abercrombie and Kurt Rosenwinkel and maybe Mike Stern in that group, too).
Also sort of "hidden" that day, in the jazz tent is Esperanza Spalding, 24, an absolutely phenomenal young acoustic bassist and singer who is a rising star in the jazz world. She draws from straight-ahead jazz, Latin, Brazilian and pop styles, and has a beautiful voice and engaging presence (easy on the eyes, too).

I assume you are talking about Friday? My Friday won't miss are Glen David Andrews and the Dirty Dozen Glass House Reunion.

Hey Everyone! I'm a new threadie, but not new to Jazz Fest. We leave tomorrow from Chicago (Glinda, same flight I think, 1:30 from MDW?) and I CANNOT wait!
MormonMatthew, I am preparing for the Fest-ivities by re-reading for the Nth time the book quoted in your signature line. It still makes me laugh out loud. So does your signature line. Every time! O Fortuna!
Whoever said they've already got the permagrin going -- it's contagious!
See you all TOMORROW! Our group of 12 will be at Mr. B's Bistro for dinner. Come on by!
