All I've had so far was a conchon de lait po boy; it was great!

Nothing bad! We have had the cochon de lait po boy, spinach artichoke casserole, creole cream cheesecake w/strawberries, meat pies, vaucresson hot sausage po boy, crab po boy, seafood au gratin, duck po boy & cuban sammiches.
The only thing I wouldn't recommend would be the cuban. It used to be one of our faves, but it's from a new vendor and not nearly as good.
The best = trout bacquet!!!!

I had the same thoughts about the Cuban - not bad, but not nearly as good as before. Although Lisa's brother Arden (his first Fest) had one and didn't have the old one to compare it to, and he thought it was great! (I brought him a cochon de lait po-boy while he was working at Ms. Lena's on Friday and he said he'd never had any "fest food" so good....)

We had a duck po-boy yesterday - highly recommended with the creamy horseradish sauce they have. Trout Bacquet today for sure!

No surprises for me--

I've stuck to old favorites: Jama jama, crowder peas w/ okra, collard greens, candied pecans, and rose mint tea. I try to keep it healthy but delicious!

My mouth is watering.
I must try the trout, amongst other things.

I had quite a few things this weekend (imagine that!). The best thing I had was the trout baquet from Lil Dizzy's. Also very good were the boudin balls, the combo plate of crawfish beignets, oyster patties, and crawfish sack, and the crawfish monica (making a comeback).

It had been a few years since I had the crawfish pie. Quite yummy and it will stay on the "must have" list. Other faves are crawfish sack, crawfish enchilada, crawfish monica. Chicken tasso is also back on my list as a "can't miss." Damn good!

Only got there Friday but made sure I had the pheasant/andouille gumbo, a soft shell po' boy, a dish of Crawfish Monica and some strawberry lemonade. Just in case I get hit by bus, I wanted to be sure I had my favs... That does still leave the cochon du lait po' boy and some boudain balls for Thursday.

The couchon de lait was awesome, as always. I also really liked the combo plate with spinach casserole, seafood au gratin and sweet potato pone - really good! Also tried the softshell crab poboy, always a favorite, the crawfish strudel - good but I probably wouldn't get it again, and the stuffed mushrooms and crawfish enchiladas which were fantastic.

I finally got to try to the BBQ shrimp poboy at Liuzza's last night. I didn't eat it right away but packed it in a ziplock (thanks, Festivalgirl!) and ate it when I got back to mama's. By that time all that yummy sauce had soaked into the bread and it was ALMOST as good as sex. It was as awesome as everyone said. :D

Yayyy! Another convert. I LOVE those things. It actually was the first thing I ate for breakfast when I got to fest Sat. morning. That and the creole stuffed bread (which wasn't my favorite).

Hey P.C., maybe I missed the report somewhere (so feel free to refer me to another thread), but how did Chicklet like her first Fest experience on Saturday?

Hey P.C., maybe I missed the report somewhere (so feel free to refer me to another thread), but how did Chicklet like her first Fest experience on Saturday?

She had a blast and so did my mom! As soon as I get home this evening, I'll post the pix and give a little more detailed report. lol, she says she's a Threadhead now.

And if the other kids that Jenn (hereafter known as the Fairy Godmother) gives fest to have half as much fun as Chicklet and my mom had, then she can go home with a happy heart knowing what a difference she has made in so many lives.

We love you, Jenn! :D

Okay, I figured this morning would be a good day to check the damage I did this weekend overindulging and my scale tells me that I've gained about four pounds! lol, I figured I would gain about five so that's about right. Now I have to eat lettuce and drink water for the rest of the week. :p

Not sure if I remember everything we ate (because we ate so much!), but here's what I recall:

Soft Shell Crab Po Boy (several)
Crawfish Monica
PQA Gumbo
Cajun Jambalaya
Tabouleh
Crawfish Bread (several)
Crawfish Pie
BBQ Ribs

All washed down with lots of Rosemint Tea and, of course, cold, cold beer...

I'm leaning toward this for my JF 2009 kickoff meal on Thursday morning. Less than 48 hours now!

I don't know about the rest of you but we felt that the food quality has gone way downhill this year. Now the crawfish strudel was wonderful and so was the crawfish monica. But the Natchitoches meat pies, which I absolutely love, just were soggy and tasted more baked than fried. The $9 oyster po-boy had 4, count em 4, small oysters. And the oyster pattie had 1 1/2 very small oysters. Not only that but they actually ran out of crawfish sacks and crawfish remoulade. I have never heard of them running out of food before.

It just seems like they are now cooking to feed the masses, the prices have gone up and the quality had decreased. Anyone else see this?

I didn't notice that with the foods we ate. The softshell crab po boys went up in rpice about $1.00 but seemed to have more crab than in years past...delicious! I have noticed that the crawfish bread is not as good in recent years. Everything else was just as awesome as I remembered.

This was an experience from over the weekend. We had gone down to visit my mom in RI. She had been talking about this Cajun resturaunt near her. It turned out to be Mexican.

We ended up going to Uno's. When we got there, they handed us a special Jazz Fest It Up menu!!!! My mom had some gumbo, I had some ragin pasta which was chicken, shrimp and andouille in a creole sauce ( and quite spicy I must admit :D ). We finished the meal with bananas forster, OK, they didn't do it at the table, but man what a nice surprice. She got her Cajun after all.

Next weekend for the AT&T Blue Room, hook it up to the big screen, with some sazeracs and meat pies!!!!!!

Oh yeah, maybe some beignets!!!!
