T'heads - on the assumption that there is no excuse to ever eat a bad meal in N.O., I'd love some recommendations for breakfast, either in the Quarter or CBD. I've done Mother's (perfectly fine, would willingly return), and I'm assuming Liuzza's will be happily mobbed. Any suggestions? Not really into the fancy spots, so extra points for old city flava and/or a great greasy spoon. Many thanks.....

try Petunia's or the Coffee Pot in the Quarter, The Palace Cafe brunch is my favorite, it is a little nicer, but you can wear your fest clothes, they willl even store your fest gear while you eat.

we discovered "elizabeth's" in the bywater last year and loved it! their praline bacon is to die for!!!
it is about a ten minute cab ride, but definitely worth the trip for some great food and reasonable price... great home cured pastrami as well.

We walked it, took about an hour each way. It was a nice walk but not how I want to spend two hours during fest.

This is the truth!! Great stuff.
I enjoy sitting upstairs in the bar area, downstairs can get a little crowded.

As one of our krewe aptly put it, Elizabeth's is the best breakfast in the known universe. The praline bacon was great, but really, you can't screw up anything with bacon, can you? I was actually more impressed with my eggs florentine with fried oysters. Eight perfectly fried, plump oysters, two perfectly poached eggs, creamed spinach and roasted potatoes. Best. Breakfast. Ever. And incredibly under-priced imo. The fried cheese grits with tasso gravy were also excellent, as were the eggs with crab cakes.

I had the Eggs Florentine, too, and it was in my all-time top five breakfasts.
