Can someone tell me about Dumstafunk? Who are the members exactly besides the obvious? Is it a rotating deal?
and also:
The Trio
Featuring Johnny Vidacovich, George Porter Jr., Theresa Andersson, and many more
Is this two separate shows at Tips on 5/6 or are they all playing together?
This looks well worth $30, no?

Hey Now McGregor, If you love New Orleans StreetFunk, anything that George Porter is involved with is sure to be a hoodoo boogie grooveathon!!! I have seen his trio w/ many players and its always been wonderful.George is one of the finest bass players around, and also seems to be one hell of a nice guy! That being said, Dumpstafunk is also great.

Unfortunately, I can't get to that site (blocked @ work) but thanks for posting it.
I take it this show will sell out soon?
Thanks MMatt, I'm a huge George fan. I was just interesting in what people had to see that had seen them live? Meters-esque?

Re: Dumpstaphunk
I saw them at the Bele Chere Fest in Asheville. Bonerama and Dirty Dozen BB had already warmed up the stage. I've seen the original Meters, funky Meters, Nevilles, PBS, PGF, Jon Cleary, etc.. but that set by Ivan and D-phunk (with DD horns) was the absolute best New Orleans funk I've ever witnessed.

When I saw George and the Trio at Maple Leaf 2 weekends ago it was awesome. George with Russell Batiste (Funky Meters) on drums and June (Papa Grows Funk, Wild Magnolias) on guitar. They played several Meters tunes, assorted covers and some of Georges' solo stuff. There was ample room to groove, it was quick and easy to get a(nother) drink, and George was making the rounds between sets, saying hello and thanking us for supporting him!!! What a class act...... I am sure at the Tipitinas show at fest it won't be as intimate. I love Tips, but it can get oppressively crowded for shows during fest. None the less, I plan on going, I just try to get to the show as early as possible, to get some space up front.

I saw Taj there a couple of months ago and thought the same thing, a bit to crowded.
But what can you do...you gotta go!
Upstairs is not terrible if you can get on the railing. If not, you just can't see.
