Advance tickets only cost an arm. Gate tickets are an arm and a leg.

I'm sorry. I know were in a repression but it wasn't that long ago a JF ticket was only $12.

A while back someone mentioned 'ticket ATMs' at the gate. How do they work?

I understand that they are fifty dollars at the gate.

One thing to consider is if you are taking the Jazz Fest shuttle from the French Quarter is that the line on the first morning can be long since people usually buy their whole weekend together so if you are in early enough (before 4:00PM) the day before, buy the shuttle tickets a day in advance.

The line for the Jazz Fest tickets at the fairgrounds isn't usually too long but the bus ticket line can run from inside the Sheraton, out the door and around the corner. It is a bit of a bummer when you get there all excited to go to JF and you see that line.

I know I am not prepared. How much to expect to pay for cab ride to the JF from the French quarter. Are there designated sites.

Exactly like you imagine. Insert your ATM/credit card, choose the number of tickets to buy, and out comes your tickets. Fast and easy. We've been doing this for the last couple of years and found it very easy and quick.

Thanks! Is there a service charge on top of the $50 cash price?

I like the sound of the ticket ATM's. I'm assuming that each of the gates has this option, right?

At what time will the gates open for sales? When do you recommend arriving if we want to catch a first act on Acura?

as early as is feasible for you.

i like to get there early. get situated. maybe grab a bite to eat.
the gates open between 10:45 & 11 - there is an official time but it also depends upon them being ready inside fest. people start lining up hours before that, so it can be somewhat crowded when the gates first open. but it doesnt take too long to get through.
a lot depends upon the acts that day. DMB will propably draw a very large early crowd - people wanting to set up camp early. and then another surge late afternoon for those coming only to see them.

the larger the group you're traveling in, the longer it will take to do everything. like leave the hotel, get breakfast, get a cab, etc. etc.

some folks do late night (early morning) shows and getting there by 2pm is a struggle.
