This is killing me. Fortunately, I've got work, packing, and the NHL playoffs to focus on. In fact those west coast games are helping me work out my "late night" skills. I almost made it till midnight last night.

LOL!! Our first fest day began with me sweeping the kitchen, putting chocolates in the guest bedroom candy bowls, fluffing pillows, putting lagniappe bags on the guest beds. David is vacuuming the stairs.
But in an hour, we'll be headed to Liuzza's. :)

I can't stand it! For the past few years, I've been a first weekender. This year I'm a second weekender. I want to be there so badly. I want to hear "Welcome to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival" booming from the speaker as I get off the bus. I want to see Drive By Truckers with Booker T.

First day was fantastic! Weather was beautiful, definitely warm but a nice breeze and not too crowded. I saw a little of The Vettes & Benjy Davis at Gentilly - sound seemed much better. Caught some of the Lost Bayou Ramblers - freakin' awesome! Tried to hustle over to the Gospel Tent to catch the end of Gospel Soul Children but just missed it. Sat in for a couple songs from the New Orleans Spiritualettes instead, quite entertaining.

Headed to TH meetup and got to say hello to a few people and hand out our rockin' Snooks lagniappes (thank you Lostcajun!) then worked at Ms. Lena's until about 4:30 where I was able to hear the Nightcrawlers fantastic set.

Hit the rosemint tea and softshell crab poboy - yum! and headed to Acura for the last song of Drive By Truckers, sorry I didn't catch more of them. Then stayed for Joe Cocker - totally awesome! He still gives 100% to every song. Laughed, danced, ate, drank all while listening to great music in the sunshine...what more can you ask for?

We started our day at Liuzza's and wound up hanging for a couple of Bloody Mary's while the tix lines died down...in the gates about noon, so it's lunchtime, of course...soft shell crab po boy with some Crystal and just a little mayo washed down with a cold, cold beer from Ms. Lena's...on to Marc Broussard's set at Acura...then Congo Square for Henry Butler (great set!)...then the end of The Nightcrawlers' set...caught the whole Mahalia Jackson tribute (awesome!)...then ended day 1 with my favorite set of the day...Joe Cocker really puts his all into every song and his band is just so tight!

For nighttime entertainment, we checked out the new R & B...I was wary when I heard John Blancher was moving, but I have to say he did a great job...it resembles the old R & B in a lot of ways (layout, horshoe bar) but it's bigger and, obviously, newer...Sonny Landreth ripped it up and then Anders played an awesome set (anyone seen him do Ohio by CSN & Y before? Wow!) and closed with a double encore of songs that John Blancher requested...all told a fine first day! Ready for round two!

I had a nice first day. Food-wise I was pretty traditional; started with the crawfish sack combo and finished with the bread pudding with white chocolate sauce, squeezed in some cochon de lait po-boy and mango freeze. I hooked up with a good friend of mine I haven't seen since Christmas and we pretty much did the walk-around all day, trying to see everything. We made the first meet-up and I got to meet some great people. Best act and my must-see of the day was Roy Rogers in the Blues Tent; and he was as awesome as I remember. And it didn't hurt that he brought Marcia Ball up on stage to play some. All in all, a great first day!

Have a wonderful Fest everyone, whenever you get here and whatever your pleasure!!

Friday is always my favorite day since the crowd is smaller and you can walk into most any venue at show time. First of all....the weather was absolutely friggin' perfect!!! 80 and sunny with a great breeze all day...yesssir!! After our traditional bloody or 2? at Luizza's...Fest was on. Started with a few songs at Blues Tent by Tabby Thomas and that was good...he is slowed down by age but gave it all he had. We then caught the end of the Vettes show at Gentily and we were surprised at how much we liked them...very much a "Blondie" feel to show but the sound was sooooo much better at Gentily this year! We then caught the next 2 shows at Fais Do Do with Lost Bayou Ramblers (excellent) and Willis Prudomme (excellent and the fiddler from the Ramblers played with him)...both good shows. We then headed to Blues Tent to catch Roy Roger (most excellent) and he blew the roof off!!
Next we got into Gospel Tent for Mahalia tribute and the combination of Landrum, Thomas, & Mavis was definitely a thing of beauty with Irma being my personal star. A quick trip to Gentily to hear some Spoon before we headed to Fais Do Do for a great closing set by Terrance Simien.

Highlight of the day...Roy Rogers at Blues Tent. Wow!!!!! It certainly did not hurt that Marcia Ball joined him mid set to jam.
