Greetings Threadhead Nation, earlier today I received an e-mail from Kim Carson all the way from beautiful Costa Rica. She applied to play at Fest again this year and was somehow left out. Seems kinda odd, given she and the band were on the Fess Stage last year and on Fais Do Do for about the prior 10 years. So, if you're a fan, and you can tell I am, please contact the Fest folk and see if they are going to be adding Kim and the band to the lineup.
FestyDave, can ya hear me?

That's unforgivable! Kim's as much a part of Jazz Fest as crawfish Monica, it's an outrage!! http://nolaforum.com/images/smiles/093.gif

Last time I saw her was at Tropical Isle the night before Turkey Day with my nieces. Seefood was in the house, too. She was playing in a three piece band whose name escapes me. Kim & the Casualties had a series of lineup changes in '03-04 and after the live at Tip's disc she moved to Austin and started another band, whose name also escapes me. Kim was playing more frequently in town in the first half of last year, then less often. The Casualties of the past couple of years has been more of an occasional happenning, primarily at FQ fest and Jazzfest. I don't know what their present status is, but I wonder if the group actually exists right now. It may, but I haven't seen them listed since last summer at Back to the Beach. I would love to see her back in town more often. She still play at the Kerry now and then. She seems like a real sweetheart. I remember them getting a slot at Acura when Theresa Anderson was with them, but usually it's FDD.

I love her at Fest!
Plus....wasn't she one of the folks who played after The Thing at a bar when there wasn't even any electricity there?? We were working like bees at home and I missed it but I'm thinking it was her. Somebody?

Yep. Bank St. Bar, with no electric & no front window. Played an acoustic set inside, then someone showed up with a truckload of generator & sound system and the party moved outside....
quite an interesting and touching night. hundreds of candles provided the only light inside, while a generator run TV with the Saints game lit the makeshift patio on the sidewalk. such a feeling of community among the neighborhood folks, or better put, a longing for community. a night that will never leave my heart for sure.

oh man, I have goosebumps again. That was one of the most magical nights I ever had in New Orleans. The vibe was incredible and both Ibjamn and I became overwhelmed, looked at each other and just started bawling. It was too much. The power of the people and their love and support for their city was so intense that night. Kim and the Banks Street peeps made that happen. It's a travesty that she is not on the lineup for fest this year. It HAS to be an oversight!
MORE KIM!!!!!!!!

That was a night I'll never forget for sure. We had been back home less than 2weeks, our downstairs was gutted out, all our things were on the sidewalk in front and we had 5 houseguests. :) We had gotten electricity back the day before everyone arrived, but no gas. (gas heat, stove & hot water heater). David went out & bought a small electric hot water heater & wired it in. We had a dorm room refrigerator and still managed to make festgiving dinner for 27 people with a hot plate, a toaster oven, a grill & a turkey fryer.
It was amazing to have our friends there with us and going out to see Kim Carson at the Banks St. Bar was our first time going out, it was unbelievable.

Another vote for KC&C. Have a smokin version of them covering Gilded Splinters. One of the first bands I fell for in NOLA many years back.

I always look forward to seeing Kim Carson perform and I know there are countless others that are questioning why she is not in the lineup for Jazz Fest 2007. We can only hope that there has been a mistake and it will corrected. By the way, I'm lucky I get to see her this Friday 3-2-07 @ Hub Stacey's (Perdido area)

Kim's been a regular at the Kerry on Decatur for a long time. Lately (since the storm) she's been at Rivershack when she's here. I've been friends with Kim for years and I really like her and her music.
After the storm, I was in Maine and all I wanted was New Orleans music. I went to my mother's house and she had an old Kim Carson CD I sent her for Mother's Day years before. I took it and started playing it when I got in my car and just balled like a baby. I got my New Orleans music and I was so happy to hear Kim singing to me.
I was wondering how she wasn't on the line up.
She's got a myspace page if any of you are on there. http://www.myspace.com/kimcarsonmusic
Where ever she is when ever she's here, you'll find me. And I love the Kerry! And the Rivershack too :) Eat Mo...you'll see me there :)
Edit to add: I just got a message from Kim...she's moving home!!!!!YAY
