Can anyone supply me with information about this venue? It looks like they are scheduling some decent shows.

I think its where the old Shim Sham Club was. Kinda small, but Shim Sham was a cool little hipster spot.

It's the old Shim Sham club on Toulouse St. A very cool club with decent drink prices

Proprieters are the people from the late great 'Matador' -- see
"Harry Anderson" for the story of that venue's demise, and lots of his further whinging about the city and life in general. His club, great location Esplanade @ Decatur, is still shuttered.

When 'Jack's' is crowded, it's REALLY crowded.

I went to the Shim Sham once to see the Cramps (03 Fest, I think). They were in a large room adjoining the front bar. I didn't consider it crowded. Does Jack's use this room for shows?

Gots ta see Dragon Smoke ( or Dragons Breath as they were refered to on a thread last year;) )there during the days between. Show was at the blue nile (I think )last year and was pretty crowded. Would anyone know if One Eyed Jacks could handle same sized crowd.

Damn, they sure ate up a lot of space back there with that bar. When I went there to see the New Orleans Retro Burlesque that back room held plenty of folks, but there was just a service bar in the back. From the picture, intimate would be a generous term.

hopefully they'll take out some of those tables!!! We're supposed to check it out for the MArdi Gras Soiree on Sunday night. I'll report back when I get home.

I've seen a bunch of shows there for fest (Morning 40 Federation plays there a lot). I've never seen tables in there and it is much wider than it looks. I'd say it holds about the same as the Blue Nile, but oriented differently, (wide side of the rectangle is parallel with the stage).

MM, I was at that Cramps show too. I left the Instruments A Comin at Tip's cuz I wasnt gonna miss it for the world. I have the Shim Sham JF handbill from that year too. Sadly it was the last one ever as the club closed 3 weeks after jazz fest.

the layout in the picture reminded me of the old Matadoor.

we were at that show too.

it was a great room. it had many tiers so everyone could see. and the accoustics were incredible. once saw Asylum Street Spankers there - when they were still sans demon electricity. you could hear perfectly in the back of the room. saw a rockabilly band there once, no officail dance floor but you could make room to dance on each tier. it was a small, narrow, very functional room.
