Dear Jazzfest Organizers:

Please, please, please take whatever steps are necessary to fix the sound problems that have plagued this stage for the last few years.....the sound for the Allman Brothers a couple of years ago was deplorable......my AM radio has better speakers.

You've placed alot of bands I like at the Gentilly Stage this year......and I beg you to make sure your sound system is up to snuff.

Sincerely, An Aging Mule

Gentilly two years ago was my one and only chance I ever got to hear Eddie Bo. We waited an hour, he never came on, no announcements were made, we left. Who wants to go to Jazz Fest to listen to someone saying testing for an hour. A shame as there won't be another chance.

Seriously!

Is there anything more effective at creating a distraction, at breaking the magic spell, than bad sound from the PA?

Woof~!

I completely agree.I had waited 35 years to see the Allmans and travelled half way round the world, and was shattered by how bad the sound was,I kept moving to other spots to see if it would improve and it did not,it partialy ruined what should have been a great experience.Same deal with the New Orleans Social Club it looked like Dr John was getting angry at one stage it was that bad.
Anyway I am an optimist,SO THERE WILL BE NO PROBLEMS THIS YEAR.
Cheers

I was just thinking about the New Orleans Social Club set and the sound glitches that marred an otherwise amazing show........

But hopefully all will be resolved come friday afternoon!!!

Yeah - it really is a shame that these things aren't worked out..... I ditto the sentiments here. Let's hope that this year is a major improvement !

Hey Matthew, I was talking with a buddy of mine at the international festival yesterday and he started talking about a music fan out of Salt Lake City, so I asked him if he was talking about "Mormon Matthew"? And he said "How do you know Matthew?" So the question is, do you know a Michael out of Houston? I'm trying to talk him into doing JF this year but I doubt he'll make it. It's a small world. See you soon in Nola.

What a small world!!!

Michael used to live here in SLC, and we became good friends!!!

A few years back I flew to Houston before Jazzfest and went to Intermational Fest (Wild Mags, Marcia Ball) then headed to New Orleans from there. I stayed with Michael and his girlfriend Judith, and have tried to talk them into meeting me at Jazzfest ever since........

The next time I go down to Houston, I will get in touch so we can all hang out!!!
Michael is one hell of a nice guy---I will have to give him a call and sass him about Fest again.......

Fred, you will be at Jolie's, right?

We need to meet and drink to the subdudes!!! Matthew

Matthew, we're making an offer to the subdudes tomorrow for our summer concert series!! Might be worth the trip up to Teton Valley!! Shorty another week possibly too!!

Gentilly hasn't been as consistently bad as the Blues Tent. The volume has always been absolutely deafening, to the point where it is distorted beyond belief. Not to mention the problems at the Gospel Tent -- also way too loud. Sometimes I think the sound people are hearing impaired from years of sound work and have no idea how anything souneds anymore.

he did come on very late and we stayed for his set. in doing so, we only got in on the end of the Ed Bradley tribute.

I agree, especially the Gospel tent. It is possible to have a system sound loud without being painful.

Now I am officially jealous... BDP was awesome last year, even in the r*in, and I had never heard them before.

Now off to drink and live vicariously!

I saw Amanda Shaw at the Gentilly Stage and the sound was fine. I was up pretty close, though. I did notice what seemed to me to be bigger stacks set up a little behind the soundboard and they seemed to be delivering powerful sound to the back reaches.

I'll admit the sound has improved from past years at the Gentilly Stage. It did look like bigger speakers behind the soundboard. There was still a ton of feeback during Ivan Neville on Saturday. I now think the main problem of the Gentilly Stage is that the sound typically faces a steady wind out of the south, which muddies it up quickly. Best bet is to be right up front.

So is Klondike doing the sound at CFF this year? My experience at CFF is that the sound is good. My many experiences at Jazzfest have been decidedly mixed over the years. Wind never helps. Didn't make it this year. Glad to hear Fest has enlisted a top-flight professional sound company. Let it remain so.
