I somehow was always under the impression that the main goal of the Jazz Fest non-profit status was to provide money to the local schools to insure that New Orleans had public programs in place to help continue and foster the rich and vibrant music scene....
The followin' taken from this web site seems to indicate but a few dollars $150,000 in total,.. doled out in tiny $10,000 increments... Please tell me I'm missin' something..... At todays ticket prices that is but 3,333 tickets sold at the gate.... That's not per day,.. but total... Per day it's only 550 tickets and that can not represent all the money that makes it back to fill the needs of the local programs... Please tell me that I am totally misinformed....

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival Foundation, Inc. is a Louisiana non-profit corporation organized in 1970 to promote, preserve, perpetuate and encourage the music, arts, culture and heritage indigenous to the New Orleans area.
To accomplish these goals, the Foundation presents an annual event, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. A community board of directors consisting of 30 members governs the organization. The board of directors uses the surplus funds from the yearly Festival to support music and arts education, a community radio station, local entrepreneurs and a wide variety of cultural programming. These activities in turn feed the creative spirit the Festival celebrates.

Community Partnership Grants
One way the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation supports the music and culture of Louisiana is by giving grants to arts organizations and individuals working on important artistic or educational projects. This year, the foundation will distribute $150,000 in Community Partnership Grants in amounts of up to $10,000. Letters of Intent are due March 12, and final applications are due April 17. We will hold workshops on Feb. 28 and March 7 to help you with your application.

I fully realize that the wonderful WWOZ also gets support,.. and of course the free tickets help many locals enjoy the fest itself (but free tickets don't cost but the price to print them,.. and those lucky peeps do spend money at the fest),.. but I always thought 100's of thousands of dollars made it into the school music programs... Please post any and all info that proves that to be true.....
