Caught LC at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland last night and was amazed and surprised to witness one of the best concerts I've ever seen, if not the best. The guy is nearly 75. He played for more than 3 hours. He played everything I wanted to hear and then some. He did four encores. Received 10 or 12 standing ovations--I have never seen such an outpouring of affection for a performer in my life. His band is incredible and tight (has a Spanish guitar player who plays 12 string, bandurria, and laud, among other things). His backup singers are beautiful and have voices like angels. His lyrics are genius and he sings them perfectly. He is in the proverbial "golden voice", and obviously loves what he is doing--singing about despair and lost love while appearing impish and humble, and occasionally rocking the house. What a night and what a memory. Leonard's on tour for a while. If you can, get tickets.

BTW, for those who can't get seats, the new DVD from a concert last fall, "Live in London" captures the show perfectly.
