I almost spit up coffee on my laptop screen when I read this over on Coventry (http://phishcoventry.blogspot.com/2009/04/change100s-guide-to-music-festival.html)music blog this morning. These guys are mainly a bunch of Phish fans who I read for a good laugh, but I am sure most (if not all) of the Threadhead ladies will agree with this view.
Here is the link to the store mentioned (http://www.shopbop.com/music-festival-style/br/v=1/2534374302149035.htm?all)...

When you pay $150 bucks for cutoff shorts, doesn't that significantly cut into your beer budget??? I'm just askin'.....

I thought that was the goal of fest dressing... to look like a drunken indigent. Have I been doing it wrong all along?
but I am sure most (if not all) of the Threadhead ladies will agree with this view.
It all started with model Kate Moss. She was photographed wearing the ensemble, pictured below to the Glastonbury Music Festival a few years back & voila! =Festival Chic.

I'll admit, I do care about my appearance at fest! The heat & bloating can make you look pretty haggard by the end of day...and then someone takes your picture . I dress as stylish as I can without compromising comfort & practicality. I wouldn't pay what they charge on Shopbop, but I thought all the Rompers shown would be cute & work well at fest! That blog was hilarious!

She also has a VIP/All Access Pass, so she can sit that micro-mini in a nice, dry, upholstered chair backstage . . .
I try to combine the best of some style, with an overriding nod to practicality. Fashion may be pain, but I'm only willing to put up with so much at a festival in the name of looking good for other women (because, ladies - you all know we're dressing for each other - not guys, as commonly assumed).

Kitty my hubby noticed your style at CFF last year. He just wanted you to wear a skirt a bit shorter to show the art mo better. You always look so cool with your hats and such.

roflmao...not a chance in hell would I pay that kind of money for that stuff...$448 for a purse for fest? Not sure what kind of festivals they're are referring to but they obviously never spent a day at Jazzfest, Bonnaroo, High Sierra etc...lol

I was trying to explain fest fashion to a freind recently, by saying I wear things that will look ok wet. Cuz it's either gonna get sweaty or r@#ned on. That was enough for her to understand that fest is probly not for her.

HAHA so true...a lesson learned that has served me well at lots of fests. Rainy days are for dresses/skirts slightly shorter than the rain poncho.... all my cargo "shorts" are too long and wick the rain right off the darn thing!!
Once again I have to give praise to the Creator for choosing to make me male. All I have to worry about is that my cut-offs don't have holes in the pockets or crotch and my t-shirt is fashionable(doesn't stink).

My criteria for shorts during fest days is that I must be able to pull them up and down over my sweaty butt quickly in the blue rooms. That pretty much equals frumpy elastic waisted shorts. And I hope you people waiting behind me in line appreciate the sacrifice. :D

jazzfest is not for the squemish!
and as much crap as i bring inside fest everyday, i still warn others:
if you will get upset when it gets wet, lost or broken - dont bring it.
i do have some 'imperfect' clothes i wear to fest. a little stain here, maybe a little rip there (safety pinned together). i just pretend they happened after i left the room - because they often do.

To think any of anyone dressing for fest as a superficial fashion statement is just way beyond me

Thanks for the props!! :D

Hee Hee, that IS funny, Lis!! Men (the little dears) are definitely NOT the fashion critics we women worry about - well, except for gay men - it's our fellow females for whom we dress to impress.
Please assure Ed that while we are concerned if men think our butt looks fat in these jeans/shorts/whatever - we're really more worried about what catty comments might be made about us from other chicks . . .

I go for big legged (that's pronounced LEG-ged) shorts so you can squat , pull a leg to one side, let fly, dry and exit. Who sez you gotta be male to be quick? ;~)

ZK's outfits are great - and I can easily find her in a crowd because of the amazing parasol she may be toting for the day.......
