Really? The gals usually love the grandstand... Not mentioned in the official descriptions in the fact that inside the air conditioned building is where you will find clean flush toilets and cool running water fountains.

Get off my thread, you shyster.

Hubby has taken a nap on the steps while I continued my ventures. Guess the camping for years has made me a tough gal.
Are the oysters good there? That is why I wanted to check it out but there is a lot going on. The exhibits look great.
I had no idea..thanks again

The oysters are pretty good, but the shuckers aren't very motivated.

And the shuckers (at least last year) were very belligerent about getting a tips... even refusing to give oysters to someone in line whom they had determined did not tip sufficiently

Sounds like I will pass on that one and go to the regular oyster house and give my money to those who not only shuck but entertain.
Will check out the GS this year though.

Funny you should mention flush toilets and shysters in consecutive posts. Did you know that the term "shyster" derives from the German for "one who defecates"? Fascinating, I know. How it ever became associated with lawyers and politcians I'll never know.
In any event, carry on with your thread.

Bummer about the shuckers. :( We never had problems with them, but that kind of behavior is pretty poor.
Belle -- I HIGHLY recommend the Backstreet Cultural Museum exhibit in the Grandstand. Fascinating stuff on jazz funerals, SAPCs, 2nd lines, MG Indians, etc. An 'only-in-New Orleans' experience, to be sure. Looks like there are other exhibits on MG Indians, 2nd lines, etc. in the Grandstand too.
(Howya doin', by the way?)

I've enjoyed some of the cooking demonstrations held there. For me, it's a good place to get out of the blazing sun, and I can pick up some cooking tips at the same time.
A while back, I watched one of the guys from GW Fins make crawfish etoufee and we got free samples. But the best part...in order to demonstrate how fresh the daily catch is...he broke out some sashimi-grade yellow fin tuna. Delicious.

Damn, I wish I would have never looked at that food list. The chocolate pecan crepes w/the Louisiana strawberries look good first Sunday and I wanna try the Eggs Sardou on second Sunday. Yummm.

I used to head over there for flush toilets before I got real lazy ;) The lines were never outrageous.
