Maybe I am the last person on Earth to know about this, but it is really fun!
If you go to Google Maps, enter any address in New Orleans (or where ever).
Next, look for the zoom feature and 'drag' the little yellow man onto the map. You can take a walking tour of the French Quarter from your desk at the office!

This is super cool! I knew about it, but never thought of using it to quench my thirst for more n.o. stuff in the final daze....

I've done that before and "took" the St. Charles streetcar from Lee Circle up to Audubon Park. YYR - great fun.

Even trippier is using the latest GoogleEarth and toggling the "street view" - zoom in and double-click one of the little camera's and you get the 360-degree street view like Google maps... now exit the photo and it's like that movie Brainstorm, with little chrome globes with the wrap around photo being reflected off of'em. OK, I'm easily amused!
Just stumbled by d.b.a.....sigh :)

Is that the 'street view' ?? I like going thru the 7th ward, not safe outside the virtual world, but beautiful houses. This is the area bounded by St. Claude-Claiborne and St. Bernard to Elysian Fields. Its a beat up version of the Marigny, and one of the oldest creole neighborhoods in New Orleans. Check it out from the safety of your computer.

I'm glad lots of people are changing their avatars to pics of themselves. Makes it a lot easier to (possibly) spot people on the grounds!
