There was an article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch today that Best Buy Reward Zone members will get first crack at tickets -- one of those corporate sponsorship kinda things. Just a heads-up if you hadn't heard...
I knew they might be coming on my B-day, but didn't hear about when tix would be on sale. According to Jambase there is a pre-tix sale "membership" site you can log onto.

Hey Windowman - do you come to Atlanta often? Do you ever have time for dinner and/or drinks? It would be fun to meet up with you.

I don't get to Atlanta much, but there is a chance I will be up there the second weekend in March for a conference. I'll let you know if it's a go!

Great - if it works out, drop me a line at neenatlanta at comcast dot net. I'll gather up some Atlanta festers and we can meet up.

I dont mind shelling out $$$ to get to hear the music I love, but 100 bucks to join a group for the privilage of buying tickets early!?!?! If I had Bill Gates' money I wouldn't allow myself to be suckered into something that assinine......

Well, I'm absolutely thrilled to see a Toronto date...but I'm not sure I would go to see them this time around.
I was really lucky to work for the Police's record label (A&M) back in the day, and part of my job was to tour with the act in Western Canada and take care of the advance promo. They were completely on top of their game back then, and one of my biggest thrills was standing on the edge of the stage and watching Stewart Copeland play. As a former drummer, I was amazed at his chops!
I also generally like Sting's solo stuff (his backup band is always first class), but I sense that this tour will wind up being a bit of a mashup between The Police's sound and Sting's sound...and that ain't necessarily good.
The Police were arguably one of the very best punk bands ever, and that's what I would want to see if I went to see them. I'm just not so sure that the current band is going to stay pure and true to its roots, you know? I'm thinking it is going to sound like Sting doing covers of old Police tunes...with a little more attitude (but less musicianship) than you would normally find at a Sting show. (You could definitely see shades of that last night when they did Roxanne.)
Hey, that's just my theory!
I kept telling myself all week, "I hope they don't play Roxanne". I have got to see them though. No band is ever as good decades later (in my opinion). Pretty cool, Ross about watching Stewart from the edge of the stage. He is one of the best drummers around (also just my 0.02).

I will bite the bullet and shell out the $$$ for a ticket (plus airfare to Vegas and a hotel room), I feel it will be worth it. ( I too am lukewarm on Stings' solo stuff.....) But there is no way in hell I would spend 100 bucks extra just to possibly get first crack at tickets. Anyways, the place where they are playing in Vegas is where I saw the Meters and Widespread Panic at the Vegoose fest (over Halloween weekend) and its just another typical big arena. In my opinion, one seat is just as good as another! But you all are right on about Stuart Copeland; he is one of rock and rolls' finest drummers, and I am sure he wont disappoint!

Oh you're gonna shell out $$$$$
Tickets for the North American leg of The Police tour will be scaled at $225.00, $90.00 and $50.00 in most markets (plus applicable service fees)
You can tell me all about it.

I know Scoop, it's brutal. But I can live with a 50 dollar "cheap" seat, its a one time deal. I will not be going on tour with the band. Still, it is kind of dissapointing to have to pay these kinds of ticket prices. I remember times where seeing live music was not only for the well to do elite!

I agree, Jada, Stewart is definitely one of Rock's best drummers fo sho'-saw them in Boston and NY in their small club days just before they exploded on to the scene. Awesome band! I agree with Mormon Matt though-I will take a cheap seat, especially Fenway in July in Boston.
