I haven't been down there in about a month but I recently heard that Ray's Boom Boom room closed down, which I can't say is not especially surprising.

I heard from the same person that the Spotted Cat will be shutting down. Has anyone else heard similar news?

What? We heard about the Spotted Cat, but what's the story with Ray's? That is where Shamarr's cd release party is supposed to be.

I give no creedence to the rumor about Ray's yet - not only is Shamarr having his Cd release party there - Marlon Jordan is scheduled for the 25th ....

Clearly - I stand corrected a week after this post......(unfortunately)

From talking with Ken today @ the RiverFest, Ray's is closed/closing and Shamarr's CD release party is trying to find another venue...

Uh oh, someone just booked me for a gig at ray's over JF. Guess I better check on that. I knew about the Cat, which is a shame. What a cool venue.

But even with Ray's, the Cat and the Hookah (and Brazil a while ago and Lazzizza's earlier this year due to a permit issue) all closing, I think there are still more live music venues on Frenchmen now than 10 years ago.

There are people booked for the cat durring fest also (I want to see Sohpie Lee)? Do you think Rays might open for a limited time certain festival weeks for awhile?

I am pretty sure that the Spotted Cat is going to reopen with a different name and that music is going to be played there. I was on Frenchmen Friday night and Ray's was closed but the street was alive. There was a brass band playing on the corner by Cafe Brasil, there was music at the Dragon's Den, Checkpoint Charlie's, Balcony, Blue Nile, Cafe Negril, dba, Snug, Spotted Cat. I can't remember if anyone was at the Apple Barrel. There is more music being played nowadays in places along St. Claude than a few years ago.

I have my site up but have refrained from commenting on Closings There Is so much confusion and Rumors it hard to put a finger on anything.I know the Cat will close the Thursday between Jazz Fest and the Owner Jimbo told me he is taking over. The Hookah is closed for sure.Rays Im not sure, It was open Friday night. The Jazz Vipers have moved on Mondays from the Cat and are playing every tuesdays at D.B.A. I will try to post some more info as soon as I can find out.But it seems to be a trend in the Quarter lots of businesses closing.Alot of Bands have moved to the street.

Hi everyone -

Just thought I would add my two cents and state that Ray's Boom Boom is definitely going to be open for Shamarr's release party. It is still scheduled for the 29th at 10pm.

Whether or not it will last long after that remains to be seen.
