And with Crazy Horse, he kicks some serious arse. Not to be missed.

I don't think it will be Crazy Horse as he had a different band when he was touring last winter, including the rhythm section he has been using since "Prairie Wind" and Ben Keith on steel. They are capable of rocking like Crazy Horse and also can do the country-shaded material.
I would expect that's who he'll use but I don't know for sure...

arse he does kick with Crazy horse and I hope that they do indeed appear. I must say that what I do find so unbelievable and singularly unique about Neil is how versatile he is. I went to that one of those epics shows at MSG at the Garden where he basically tore the roof off it, throwing aside all caution and interest in obeying MSG curfew rules on a Sunday night.
And then the other night I sat down and watched Heart of Gold, Jonathan Demme's documentary filmed at the Ryman Theater. I am going to Nashville in two weeks and am psyched to visit this legendary venue with the best acoustics in the world outside of the Mormon Tabernacle, I have toured it but never seen a show there and what better way to get pumped up then watching a master like Neil take advantage of this type of setting. It had to be one of the most earnest, peaceful, blissful concerts I have ever seen on TV, with great backing musicians gently working magic behind Neil and Emmylou Harris the perfect backing vocalist for this type of show. I hightly recommend watching it and sticking with it, the first part he plays a lot of stuff I wasn't familiar with, then he gets into some great acoustic versions of his gems. Not only is the music unreal, but the way it is filmed, the lighting, and different sets is really something to behold.
So I pay homage to him and welcome him in any form but still say bring on Crazy Horse for Jazzfest!

fyi:
Okay, so we can't get enough of Neil Young. Just a few minutes ago we posted a news item about a new video as well as how you can stream Young's entire new album on MySpace. And now we're back with another video from Fork in the Road. This one is for "Get Around" and features Neil in yet another car (could there be a theme here?). Unfortunately, we can't embed this video, you'll have to go to mog.com/mogtv/neil_young to check this one.
Listen to Fork In The Road here.
And for more on Neil Young, check our exclusive feature/interview with the legend here.

I only say that because Quint, the Director of Fest named Crazy Horse to one of us threadheads back before Neil was even annonced. I agree the last touring band was great. I think the last time he used Crazy Horse in it's entirety was the Greendale tour. My all time favorite band was the Friends and Relatives tour: Ben Keith on steel & keys, Jim Keltner on sticks, Duck Dunn on bass, wife Peggi and sister Ingrid on vocals. The Red Rocks DVD from that tour is quite awesome!

The actual question was, "Is he coming with Crazy Horse?"
The actual answer was, "yes, he's coming with the band."
I don't know who the backup musicians on Fork In The Road are, but you can bet that the jazzfest set will include at least a couple of songs from the new album.
It could be "NY and His Electric Band", but I would also expect a couple of special guests.
Crazy Horse or no Crazy Horse, we will be rockin in the free world on May 3.
See you there! I'll be with you, Mr Ohio:)

The actual question was will Neil Young have a band? Any band will do. Acoustic acts tend to die on the Acura stage due to the lack of attention from the crowd. It is very difficult for an acoustic act to hold the attention of the jazz fest crowd. To much talking, not enough volumn off the stage.

I really agree with your point about acoustic/slow music and large festivals; (and Jazzfest may be even worse than most due to several factors like noise bleed from other stages and extreme temps)
That said, I think that Neil Young is well aware of this tendency, and so I look for him to hit the stage with both barrels blazing, and deliver a hard rocking, electric guitar driven retrospective of his amazing 40 year career.

Former Beach Boy Al Jardine recruited an impressive group of all-star friends to be part of his new solo album, which he plans to release in early summer.
Neil Young, Brian Wilson, Steve Miller, Stephen Stills, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and Glen Campbell all guest on "Post Card From California," which includes a mix of original songs and "a Beach Boys standard or two," including "Help Me, Rhonda."

I guess that could be interesting. I'm one of those old people who think the Beach Boys (Brian Wilson) were an innovator in the development of popular music in the 60's.
We'll see.

Did you see Brian Wilson a few years ago at Acura?
He came out and did a 45 min. sound check before the gates opened.

Yes, it refers to the Jazzfest performance. If you click into "small venue", you'll see it says to buy tickets for the Fest itself. The "small venue" listings are just a method to allow the fest to come up when customers search for Big Name act tour dates.

review from a friend who just saw them
It was insane. Neil played so hard. He was bringing full electric hard rock. We were about ten feet away from Neil and the sound was fantastic. It is a little bit of a slow day today, as the party went quite late. The crowd was great, it seemed as if everybody knew one another, and Neil seemed to really enjoy rocking out. Apparently his sister lives just outside of town, so he gave a few 'good to be in the Soo's.' His playing was unreal, the Cortez and Cinnamon were full out electric craziness. The setlist:
Love And Only Love
Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black)
Are You Ready For The Country?
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Pocahontas
Spirit Road
Cortez The Killer
Cinnamon Girl
Mother Earth
The Needle And The Damage Done
Light A Candle
Four Strong Winds
Unknown Legend
Heart Of Gold
Old Man
Speakin' Out
Tonight's The Night
Down By The River
Get Behind The Wheel
Just Singing A Song
When You Dance I Can Really Love
That would be an awesome setlist for fest!
