View Full Version : Threadhead Records FOUNDATION

I'm happy to announce the formation of the Threadhead Records Foundation, a non-profit which is in the process of obtaining its 501c3 certification (to be a tax-exempt organization). The original Threadhead Records, which has been a non-profit in name only (and, in fact, has been losing a small amount of money) will remain a "for-profit" corporation, but will at least be temporarily dormant after finishing its two current projects (Susan Cowsill and Rick Trolsen), and paying back donors as we receive monies from projects that have been previously completed under the THR banner.
The goal of the THR Foundation will be to continue to make loans to artists, as THR does now. Also, we hope to obtain more money for the musicians (that they would not necessarily have to pay back) by applying for grant monies from foundations and governmental agencies, and by receiving tax-deductible donations from generous individuals and corporations. We are also planning on having Memberships to the Foundation, with various membership levels offering different benefits. (Please note that any monies contributed to artists that are eventually paid back to donors (as we do now) are NOT tax deductible to the donor.)
We have a Board of Directors, consisting of:
Amy Potter
Nanci Lang
Amy Smith
Nate V.
Chris J.
Heather M. (Festbabe), who has been doing an amazing job as bookkeeper for the original Threadhead Records, will be transitioning to volunteer as Bookkeeper for the Foundation.
Our first Board Meeting will be held on Sunday night, April 26th. There are many details to hash out, but I wanted to give you a sneak preview of what is coming. More will be unveiled about the THR Foundation after Jazzfest.
Thanks!
Chris

That's the hope. Grant money, foundation money, people who are rich and who love new orleans and who want to donate $$....the doors are now open.

It was only a year ago we were awaiting the release of our first Threadhead funded CD. What a difference a year has made.

What a bunch of dreamers you all are! And of the very best kind: the type that make others' dreams come true.
Congratulations on this important step and thanks for the hard work it took to get there.
I love it..this group keeps getting cooler. The world surely could use more threadheads. May this foundation be a stepping stone to make that happen! And serve as a lesson on what a few folk can do if they believe in their passions.

Congratulations, Foundation! It'll be a great way to encourage new donors and not have to finagle the "pay-back" issue for those that can give freely. Did you establish the non-profit in Louisiana? That could offer some in's with arts council grants for emerging artists and for preservation recordings.
The thing that's been naggin' at me is... how you gonna get enough bar stools together at Mid-City Lanes for the Board mtg on the 26th? ;)

but we're all already board members, and we meet here almost every night. ;)
great move. i know there's a lot of hard work and long hours that you all have done, in a relatively short time frame, to make this all possible.
applause, applause.

are the board members appointed for life?

Amazing how the group ThreadHeads and THR et al has grown so exponentially since 2004
Many, Many, Thanks for all the Time, Dedication, and Love given thanklessly by the board members and to all other brothers and sisters of the ThreadHead Nation all in the name of supporting some of the best musicians and people in need in this Beautiful City in this wonderful place we call the USA.
Very Proud to call myself a Threadhead

;) one question:
are the board members appointed for life?
My understanding is that bored members are self-appointed at their own leisure but board members have a charter, rules and all that good stuff and so forth...all of which they must follow.

it was a dig at certain boards - but not at THRecords.
i'd say more, but Big Brother may be watching.

;) one question:
are the board members appointed for life?
no, 3 will have 3 year terms, and 2 will have two year terms. But any and all can be re-elected.

We were NOT self appointed.

We were NOT self appointed.
As a 501c3, they have to have and abide by certain rules.
If my vote counts, not that I have an official one, I would vote for this board to stay on as long as they want to....y'all are doing an INCREDIBLE job!
Y'all must be proud because you are doing good work and making us proud to be Threadheads!

i think michelino meant we bored posters are self appointed members to this board. thus the 'but'.
and my question was a stab at festival boards that are appointed for life.
i think our attempts at humor/irony were lost. this is a tough room.

Uh-oh, my pun started misbehaving after I left to go do work.
Yes, Barb is right, I was joking. My intent was to contrast the definition of bored members (in other words, people who join this chat board - cause "bored" is/used to be threadheadspeak for this site? No?) who come, stay and go as they please, with that of members of a "board of directors", who often have a charter and must follow written (Rosetree's "certain") rules for how long they serve.
In others words, I was replying to Barb's question: In most cases, they wouldn't be
my rule is, if you have to explain it, it wasn't really funny.
my rule bites me often. (too often)

You are much too quick on the draw, I was ducking into the phone booth to change costumes...and then I come and find you took a polaroid.
I can go along with your rule...although my wife has told me that she never met anyone who laughs so hard at his own jokes. I'm not sure she was joking either.

Once the wine wears off, you will figure it out! As it stands now, it looks like space and time are folding....my comment appears after you quoted it from the SSBoys. But then, some geek will come along and explain that is a simple matter of having two different browsers open (and one large Metaxa on the rocks.)

This is truth: I often post here while in the midst of four or more sessions on different real (KVM'ed) and a couple often virtual machines. Having so many windows open and all the hardware crunching used to make me feel like a multi-processing god.
Now it just gets me confused. I used to be a contenda, Charlie.

That's right! Yiamas! It's been thirty years, but I can still remember the eggplant and souvlaki and the freshest tasting retsina right from the barrels lining the courtyard of this restaurant and the Plaka and the majesty of Delphi, the navel of the earth. And my first Metaxa served along with fresh figs. I'll stop there.

This is a fantastic idea for TH Records. I have experience and training in writing and applying for grants, so I would be glad to help out with reseaching and applying for appropriate grants, if you need any extra help. It is a great way to bring extra funds into an organization.
You have accomplished so much in such a short time and should be so proud of the organization and Artists. Double thumbs up! ~Sherri~
