The PBS show in NJ is being streamed on Digital Soundboard Radio (http://app1.dsbd.net/dsb/index.jsp) EDIT: tonight. An email message from them says: "DigitalSoundboard will be streaming PBS live tonight from Mexicali Blues. PBS should take the stage at about 10:30 PM EST. Click on the 'Tune In' button at our homepage under DigitalSoundboard Radio to hear the live stream.

Click on the Tune In button on the left sidebar of the webpage.

I saw Shemekia with BB King in Missoula, MT a couple year ago. Loved her!

Tomorrow morning we leave for L.A., CA for a week. Tomorrow night Galactic is at HOB, Hollywood. Kim isn't big Galactic fan, so I have the daunting challenge of convincing her to come along with me anyway.

We'll see... ;)

MT, why LA instead of SF?? :)

Great idea for a thread Lis! We've got Bridge School Benefit this weekend, Neil Young, Pearl Jam, DMB, etc.

The Beastie Boys are in Santa Cruz tonight and Jackie Greene is also sitting in with the Mother Hips in SC, but Jeff's not back from MT soon enough for any shows tonight!

Evil 1/2 is driving up from Mouseville for the BC/FSU game, FSU has a marching band, so I guess that counts as music. We're in the first row, 30 yard line behind the Seminole bench, so look for us on TV. If you don't know what we look like, think of the movie "Twins."

That's where the conference I'm going to is Amy...
Long Beach. Staying part of the time w/ in-laws...
I'm gonna ride my bike the whole length of the South Bay strand bike path. 50 miles round trip... I need the fun! My head has been in a bad place lately... That's one of my very favorite places to ride my bike!

Shemkia is fantastic -- saw her earlier this year with Buddy Guy, unfortunately the sound could have been much much better, but she was great. No live tunes this weekend, but I have two gatherings where wine tasting will occur (woooohooooo) and next week I get to see Bonnie Raitt on Wed (Calgary) -- and Marcia Ball on Friday (Louisville). After the Louisville conference, I am off to Memphis and will be taking Stax up on some suggestions for live tunes there. Thx Staxsie!

Just got in from subdudes concert here at the Belly Up in Solana Beach. Oh my stars....full of energy they brought a lil slice of NOLA to our province by the sea. It was a good crowd, which was great, because the night before they had played to a less than full house in San Juan Capistrano's CoachHouse venue. They cranked up the vibe with a mix of old (Sarita) and a few from the new CD. When they got to Mud People...everyone was on their feet. Ok...bedtime!

Way cool new board. This would be my 1st post, so please excuse any screw ups!
Mr. Csoul & I went out last night and caught a great line up. Porter, Batiste & Stoltz started the evening out. They are former members of the Meters. They were mighty funky. Next up was Dwayne Dopsie & The Zydeco Hellraisers. Hell was raised, nothing more need be said. The final show of the evening was the ever smokin' Marcia Ball. The crowd was very small, so everyone was pretty much front row. OMG!!! She rocked....and quite frankly, I think she'd still be playin' if they hadn't made her end the show. That was my first time seeing her, and I'm a fan for life, now.
My head is thumpin' today, so I'm gonna' go curl up on the couch and watch my redskins get thumped by the colts. But I will be back later to check out all these fancy new buttons on our awesome new board!

yyr, it's awesome to be that up close and personal with all that talent...all the artists got paid, I'm sure, no matter how few people showed up. And they didn't seem to mind. The folks who were there were totally into it. All the artists did meet & greets afterwards. Signed autographs and talked as long as you wanted to. There were literally 3 people in line in front of me to talk to Marcia Ball. She was just as gracious and patient as you would imagine she would be. What an awesome, awesome talent!

Lis-

Seems to me they've been second weekend every time i've seen them there.

Bridge School was incredible. After the stepchild bands got the evening going (two acts before we got there, then Death Cab for Cutie when we arrived) the heavy hitters really cranked it up. Trent Reznor played an accousitc set with a killer strings section playing with him on piano. He finished up with the songo Cash covered "Hurt". This was the surprise of the evening no doubt with accoustic mainstays following.

Foo Fighters were up next and they did their thing as usual. The band is really tight at this point in thier careers. I saw the foos play bridge school 3-4 years ago and that was their first one i believe. This being their third, they even acknowledged that they've now got a much better idea of what to do, so pretty solid set. Dam can Dave Grohl get those pipes going!!

Next up was Brian Wilson. We made this our food and beverage timeout. We got back to our seats about half way through the set just in time for a half dozen classic Beach Boys Songs. The band was tight and vocalists were solid, bringing back that classic harmonic sound.

Pearl Jam was up next, and by the end of the set, Amy was asking me, "why did I think I didn't like these guys?" The answer is she lived in seattle when Jeremy was hitting the airwaves and she was forced to hear it 10000 times a day. Anyway, played a lot of their classics and then brought "Uncle Neil" out to join them on a song from their dual album, "Throw Down Your Hatred".

Dave Matthews Band was up next. This was a cool show because usually Dave does accoustic on his own or with Tim Reynolds. This was the whole band, so that was neat. They were pretty jammy, so they only got through about 5 songs or so, but finished really strong with Neil playing with them on their final song, "Cortez the Killer", in which Dave and Neil did a blazing guitar battle of sorts. Dave had a frog in his throat so it worked out well having neil on lead vocals and dave backing him up.

Neil ended the night with a classic set of hits and a rousing super jam with everyone on stage for "Keep on Rocking in the Free World." Dave Grohl and Eddie Vedder shared a mic on this which was pretty cool. All around great show. If anyone is ever planning a trip to the bay area, if you're looking at coming in October, this is definitely a destination worthy concert event.

Vegoose here we come!!!

It was a fantastic show! I was blown away by Trent Reznor, and I don't even much like Nine Inch Nails. I hope someone recorded that as I would really love to have that set. And yeah, Pearl Jam is just an amazing talent, glad I'm finally able to see that. The one thing Jeff forgot to mention was the ridiculous crowd! I've never seen Shoreline so packed. We had to sit with your knees in our chests. Lotta folks left before the end, though, as the show went til 1am. This was the strongest line up in a long time though, not sure next year's will be quite as good . . . Oh yeah, and sometimes it *rains*

The bass player and co-founding member of PJam, Jeff Ahment, lives in Missoula, and grew up in MT. Wiki him, kind of interesting.

btw, we're still in CA, we missed Galactic due to flight delays, got to HOB at 1AM. But we still managed to eat at Pink's, after standing in line for an hour.

Oh boo, I'm sorry you missed Galactic MT! But at least you've arrived safely. I always thought there was a Pearl Jam/Montana connection, I recall they played the fairgrounds in Bozeman when I was in high school (probably 90, before they hit it big), I had no interest in going to the show of course (nope, my high school shows were Poison and Warrant, etc.)

Hey Now All, just got back from the east coast where I caught the PBS funk-a-thon at Mexicali Blues. I had no idea that it was broadcast on the net. If anyone has a copy and could take the time to make one for me I would REALLY appreiciate it. I had such a good time at the show (and the next 2 nights w/ the Radiators) it would be cool to be able to listen again. I will be happy to send some discs and postage out if anyone will be good enough to hook me up!!! PS looking forward to Vegoose this weekend... The Meters, Maceo Parker, Phil's new band, Widespread Panic. It will be a good weekend, and if anyone else is gonna make it on down make sure and say high. Best to Everyone, Matthew

Cool new board--my first post!

Last weekend went to Magnolia Fest on the banks of the Suwanee River. Fantastic 4 day camping fest. Highlight was the Wild Magnolias, with Bo Dollis looking a little weak (8 weeks after heart surgery) but sounding extremely strong. They called Joe Pony and all Pet de Kats up on stage for the last couple of songs.

Tomorrow night I'm seeing Randy Newman for the first time, at the beautiful 1920s era Tampa Theater. Saturday is Zappaween--the 11th Halloween show by Bogus Pomp, one of the best FZ tribute bands around.

My costume for Zappaween is pretty twisted, but more for the local audience. I'm going as a ruptured spleen, specifically the one removed a few weeks ago from Tampa Bay's QB Chris Simms.

Costuming tip: there's a product called 'Liquid Electric Tape' for coating bare wires. It comes in bright red and makes the best fake blood. It's thick and dries quickly, actually solidifying in mid-drip so it hangs like melted mozzarella.

Spoiler alert:

Anybody see the last South Park? Satan hosts a Halloween party for the denizens of Hell and Hollywood celebrities. His assistant whispers to him that one of the costumes is upsetting some of the guests. Satan approaches a guy in khaki shorts, bloody chest, stingray hanging from the wound. Explains that Steve Irwin's death is too recent and the costume is in poor taste. Guest says, "but I am Steve Irwin!" Satan: "No costume?! You'll have to leave."

Don't know if this photo will hot link. Note his choice of beers.
