I've seen them at the same festivals before, but not on a double bill. How often have you seen them together down there in the ATL, Moon? I grew up in NOLA and never did. With the Brothers and Panic being from up the road, you must have seen a ton of stuff that the rest of us never did.

They've done a couple of shows over the years here in Atlanta. Also in Athens but I think those were more impromptu and went un-announced. You just had to be there at the right time. But usually whenever either band has a show around here, somebody from the other group turns up for jam.

Yea, right. Even farther away from me and what really sucks is WSP will NOT be playing Red Rocks this summer. First time I can remember they won't play there :(

At least I still get to see them at MHMF in July :)

Hmmm Moon in my over 350 shows plus since 93; have I ever heard of or seen the whole band (Allman Brothers Band) at the same time play with or on stage with PANIC.. Now on numerous occasions Warren and Dereck Trucks have shown up ad played with them. Butch Trucks has also played with them but not even Greg himself has officially joined the stage. For a complete update list please use the informative link below.

***Also this is tour is billed as: Widespread Panic will be joining the Allman Brothers Band on tour this fall in celebration of the ABB 40th anniversary! As co-headliners, the bands will share opening and closing duties and hopefully have plenty of time on stage together!***

Your relatively generic southern amphitheatre. About 8000 seats under a roof, no walls but theoretically air conditioned, with a big old lawn behind that that brings capacity to about 20K.

It's in Fair Park, and Oct 16 is closing weekend of the State Fair. So you can get your corny dog on, blow some change on the Midway, have a deep fried coca cola and a chicken fried bacon, visit the sheep, and ride the Texas Giant Ferris wheel, visit the Beergarten, and then stumble into the show. If you're only interested in the concert, though, it does mean parking will be a hassle.

Should be a decent venue, even mid-October, as long as the wet stuff doesnt fall that night.

Originally called Coca Cola Starplex, then Starplex, then Smirnoff, and now Superpages.com.

we have one of those, Verizon Wireless ampitheater (this week). 7k seats, another 13k on the lawn. if you're in the first (floor) section, or the boxes, its a decent venue, otherwise it pretty much sucks. some rows have 50+ seats. havent been in many years, beers were $8 back then. at least they dropped the parking fee, unless you want to park close (vip parking).

and now owned (or at least ran) by livenation. http://www.livenation.com/venue/verizon-wireless-amphitheater-st-louis-tickets#

Thanks, I'll wave to you on your boat.

Growing up in NOLA, when you have a boat, you have a boat pretty much year-round. When you live where we live now, you have a boat for 4 months and visitation rights for the rest of the the year while it's drydocked in a heated warehouse. I forget I have one most of the time. I love it and wouldn't give it up for anything, but it is kind of depressing just thinking about the lack of time you actually get to spend on it here.

Is it May 15th yet? I'm so done with the winter.

Thanks, Fred. You can tell I'm a fellow southern boy by the name of our boat... Brass Monkey. As in the old nautical saying "it's cold enough to freeze the balls off of a brass monkey". I never thought I would ever be considered a whiner or a sissy about anything. My first 4 winters here were not really that big of a deal, annoying at their worst, but the last two have been absolutely brutal!

Nothing like the Chicago summer though. It is just getting there that is the problem :-)

Do you know the origins of that saying and what a brass monkey is?

To the best of my knowledge it is actually a myth or legend that has been passed down through the years in nautical circles, but with no historical justification. My Grandpa was in the Navy and was the first to tell me about it.

"In the earlier years of the United States Navy, every Naval sailing ship was required to have a cannon for protection. Cannons of the times required round iron cannonballs. The ship's master wanted to store the cannonballs such that they could be of instant use when needed, yet not roll around the gun deck. The solution was to stack them up in a square-based pyramid next to the cannon. The top level had one, the next had 4, the third level down had nine, the lowest had sixteen. Four levels would then provide a stack of thirty cannonballs. The only real problem was how to keep the bottom level from sliding out under the weight of the other fourteen cannonballs on top. To do this, they devised a small brass plate (a "brass monkey") with one rounded indentation for each cannonball in the bottom layer. Brass was used because the iron cannonballs would not rust to the brass monkey, but would have rusted to an iron one.
When temperature falls, brass contracts in size faster than does iron. As it got cold on the gun decks of the vessels, the indentations in the brass monkey would get smaller than the iron cannonballs they were holding. If the temperature got cold enough, the bottom layer would pop out of the indentations, spilling the entire pyramid over the deck. Thus, it was (quite literally) cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey."
