It's finally here - Cube Day! May you have no FOMS :D

I cant wait to see when and where. But for me the best part is the who...those artists and bands I have never seen perform or even heard of. Then you kind folks educate and give your opinions freely. Discovery always happens at Jazzfest!!!

I just love this day.

Bring it on!!!

Belle, have your plans changed? I was sure I read that you weren't attending this year! Man, I hope you're gonna' make it! Thought we weren't going to make it for a while. That is NOT a good feeling! Ditto on the "discovery" thing. The highlight of my fest every year is ALWAYS someone I have never heard of prior to walking through the gates.

We were not gonna be able to swing it cause the economy hit on the family business but we landed some contracts late, had some amazing generous offers from Threadhead nation, and used some airline points and are making it.

I believe in miracles. When you coming? We gotta get together.

That's so awesome, Belle. I think the Good Lord knows that some of us need this trip for the health of our very souls. We had a little miracle, too. Mr. Soul figured out how to use points for the entire hotel stay. We usually have to pay at least 2 nights. So, with free hotel and ff miles airfare, we couldn't afford NOT to come! We are 2nd weekend. Thursday afternoon untill too damn early Monday a.m. We definitely need to meet up if you're there 2nd weekend.
Any idea about an ETA for the cubes?

U-Betcha! I'm working on a FOM Free Fest this year. Of course I need to see the cubes before I'll know if that's a fact or just a fantasy. I've leaned over the years that if you avoid the people who come to your town, you stand a much better chance of pulling it off.

Actually, it's not that hard. If you been going to Fest as long as I have, you can eliminate a lot of acts you've seen over the years for new ones you've been hearing about. For example, 2nd Sunday has Jon Cleary opposite Shamarr and Kenny Neal. I've seen Jon and Kenny countless times but I've never seen this young trumpet player so it's a no-brainer. I never fret over BNAs because they all play in Atlanta some time or another so I can rule them out. There's also a reason you wear good shoes and work out two months before this thing even starts.

2nd Fri last acts Poncho Sanchez vs John Scofield

I am curious about Po' Henery & Tookie on thurs. Anyone have a music link for them I only seem to find Bio info.

2nd Sunday Jon Cleary vs Shamarr

I get the cubes but they are blank. I can see the time slots but nothing is in them. So, I figure I'd wait until I get home to look but we have no internet at home until our contractor hooks up our DSL line downstairs. So, neither option works.

A few observations:

Ebony Hillbillies getting 2 slots (Blues and Langiappe) + an interview first Sun
Glad they moved Landreth and Cray into the sun -- they were too big for the tent
Sorryto see Sharon Jones stuck in the tent
Strange happenings at Congo - a bunch of short slots for DJs or whatever on most days
First Sat at Gentilly may be the best "single day single stage" lineup (Gospel first Sun is a close second)
seems like a lot of cajun/zydeco is mia
Kids tent looks strong -- thanks for keeping it

Anything else strike anyone?
