Hey Guys!
Many of you may have heard about the Backbeat Jazzfest Series by now - but we've added NEW ARTISTS so take another look! :: 20+ evening shows presented by Backbeat Presents at four of the top venues in New Orleans. This year Backbeat is partnering with the Louisiana Campaign For Tobacco Free Living to make all shows as part of the series SMOKE FREE!

A few highlights of this year's stellar lineup include Dirty Dozen Brass Band featuring Booker T with Hill Country Revue; Big Sam’s Funky Nation, (Grammy Award Winners) Grupo Fantasma, Soul Rebels Brass Band and Brownout!; Tim Reynolds & TR3 w/ On The One; Ghostland Observatory w/ special guest tba; Cyril Neville (Album Release Party) with Tab Benoit & Jumpin Johnny Sansone PLUS The Wild Magnolias with Big Chief Bo Dollis and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux; Soulive with the Shady Horns & special guest Nigel Hall + Benevento/Russo Duo with special guests; Medeski, Martin & Wood with DJ Logic; Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue (late night); Toubab Krewe; Marco Benevento Trio / Bustle In Your Hedgerow, and many many more!

***Backbeat Jazzfest Series on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=15947708125&ref=ts)***
The Backbeat Jazzfest Series is also on Twitter (www.twitter.com/BackbeatNOLA), so come talk to us in realtime at www.twitter.com/BackbeatNOLA.
Backbeat Presents will present shows at The Studio At Colton Theater for the first time. The Studio At Colton at 2300 St. Claude Avenue, is a post-Katrina grass-roots conversion project of an old public school. Through the sweat of the residents, classrooms have been renovated into artist studios space and there is public assembly space including a 1000 capacity theater with a large built-in stage. It has a large open space in front of the stage and some theatre style seating toward the back. The Prospect 1 International Art Biennial featured some events and exhibits there and it is where Krewe du Vieux held their Mardi Gras Ball this year. It is located on the burgeoning St. Claude arts corridor that has generated a good bit of development interest from the artistic and real estate communities. It is walking distance from famed Frenchmen Street and on a major bus line (and 1 block from the Hi-Ho Lounge).
All Show are 18 to enter 21+ to drink and are non-smoking!
Here's the lineup with links for more information and tickets. If you're heading down to Jazz Fest this year and are looking for night shows to hit, it is DEFINITELY worth your attention!

hey guys!
just wanted to let you know about the lineup for the 4th Annual Backbeat Jazzfest Concert Series. it's a sick lineup, with tons of great bands! Can't say I have Phatpapa. I use to catch him all around when he played with my boys (Panic). Always loved his style and him dancing around the stage barefooted.

It was his band back in the 80's and they were pretty good. I've seen him a bunch with Panic too. (my boys too)

Little Women were a great!!! regional band, with a strong following in the Intermountain West ---Boulder, Jackson Hole, Salt Lake, Sun Valley--- After they split up, Jerry Joseph formed a solo group (Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons) who never managed to gain much traction......
His biggest audience now are those that know him from his many collaborations with Widespread Panic.

Yaeh I love some PANIC been chasing them around since the early 90's when JoJo at the time was dating my sister up in Oxford at Ole Miss when he was playing with ol' George McDonald (oops McConnell). Actually played some golf with JB a few weeks back in Orlando. My personal opinion the most talented musicians and most genuine guys in the business. Doesn't get any better when it comes to jam-bands. So Phatpapa you coming down to Orange Beach if so drop me a line and who knows maybe I can introduce you to the boys.

I have met JB on a couple of different occasions, and he really does seem like a down to earth, and very low-key kind of guy. Same with Todd and Dave Schools as well. Mike was also easy to talk to, and I just wish the band would find a permanent guitar player to do justice to his contributions to Widespread Panic.......
Jimmy Herring is an amazing player, hopefully he will find his place among the rest of the band.......

Love me some Panic!! They always draw a fun crowd at Acura. guess the fans mirror the band as a generalization. Keep wishing they'd make a trip back through jackson hole one of these summers!! Ain't Life Grand!!

funny, i actually went to the same high school as Schools, but he was older. kind of a legendary figure among the faculty and students when i was a kid, but pre Panic. known for partying and his wild hair. hate to say it, but my mom was his teacher one year and i don't think she was a fan. lol!
met JB a time or two as well and yep, very nice guy.
so, aside from Panic, what are you guys planning on seeing at Jazz Fest this year?

Yea my flight lands at 7:45, meetin up with my friends in Brooklyn, gonna watch the PITT game and then head over. I've really been wanting to see this lineup of musicians for awhile. Big Krasno & Deitch fan and more recently getting familiar with Nigel Hall, mainly cause of his work with Lettuce & Soulive. I hear nothing but the best things about Louis Cato. So it would be safe to say I am stoked. A Trucks sit in would really top it all off.
Follow that with Allmans and Dumpstaphunk the next night and I'll be a happy camper.
Just read a little review of Krasno with Roots & Dumpsta on jambands.com

and when you see Schools, just tell him i say Go Cougars!

hmmm, don't think so.
sullivan hall is a 345 person venue in the village. has an adjoined club downstairs called sullivan room - but i don't think it's the place you're describing.
take a look at sullivanhallnyc.com and see if it looks like the right place to you. there are photos of the club in the Photos section :)

CEG is indeed involved with Backbeat. if you're trying to get into Sullivan Hall, i would suggest sending a demo tape or an electronic press kit to their main offices.
good luck!

Love the lineup! I have one question though -- why book the Benevento/Russo Zepelin show on exactly the same night and time as Lez Zeppelin is booked? Seems like an odd choice.

hey dank_bass, if you're still around i wanted to pass this along to you.
i checked in with a booking agent here and asked her to look at your myspace page. she checked it out and told me to have you email with any pertinent information to info@cegmusic.com. they'll be looking for myspace links, an EPK if you have one, biographical info, and information about recent shows you've played (in terms of location, attendance, ticket price, etc). feel free to reference this correspondence in your message so they know that i told you to get in touch.
good luck! hope it works out for you :)

Hey Frank...hopefully you'll still check this thread....I just got a Jambase email listing the shows, and the only new one I saw was this:
Bonerama / MIDNITE band to be announced with many special guests (check website for details)
Thursday April 30th 10:00pm $20
Studio at Colton Theater
In assoc. with Ropeadope
I have checked the Backbeat website, the Stuido at Colton website, the Ropeadope website, the Bonerama website....you get the picture. No other info on this listed anywhere. Is this for real? My krewe was leaning towards the Royal Family Ball that night, but Bonerama at night is hard to pass up. Any info would be much appreciated.

the Studio at Colton Theater was also the site of the Krewe de Vieux party during Mardi Gras this year. it's a very cool new space. Backbeat is proud to be able to have a hand in bringing it onto the scene.

new mastersounds are one of my favorite bands, and i am sure they will get all sorts of crazy sit-ins, so it is a very hard decision for me. but i may very well go with the quartet. too bad NMS only get one little show over the whole two weeks this year, seems like they were much more busy last year :(

really, really want to see NMS this year but late night at HOB is sorta meh. was hoping they'd find their way to blue nile again but they are elsewhere the week 'tween and it just doesn't seem like it will work out schedule wise.
this quartet show goes right to the top for options late saturday - though need to see Shorty too and late night at studio at colton with logic sounds like a winner. sooo many choices :D

Back in February I was going to see Dr John and The Neville Brothers at HOB in Houston, I got through with work early and went by Cactus Records (Houston version of LMF). As I walked in I was like, "Man they are Jamming in here today" and then I looked in the front and saw The Bridge setup doing an acoustic show. They were amazing...I talked to them after and found out that they had just drove in from New Orleans and we talked about some of our favorite hangouts (DBA, The Maple Leaf, etc). They told me they were playing in Austin that weekend, and I was going anyway to see Asleep at The Wheel. When we got through we went to Stubbs to check them out...by now I had already fallen in love with their new album, great show. I posted a few videos on youtube of them..just do a search for The Bridge Stubbs Austin and you'll find them. I ended up buying their other two albums that night and they are really good. Can't wait to see them again. I've been telling everyone I can about them since that first encounter.

I'll likely be at the Bone and the Disturbers but I'm loving the wolf's show(I lllllooooooove Lettuce.) that night too, as well as the Cyril Neville show. Also will likely be at Big Sam and Soul Rebels because Soul Rebels are really kicking it right now. Also interested in the MMW show but would be more interested if I knew that Scofield would show up to sit in. :) I'm liking the Crazy Engine show too but that night i'll likely be at dba for Anders.
I'm not crazy about tips FQ. At most clubs I can maneuver close to the front for a bit but that was not the case there last year at the lettuce show. And I have to have my close to the front fix, ya know.
I'm really excited about the new Colton venue.
