Ozzie,Peteup,Ozgal etc
The Aus Dollar has gone up a bit against the greenback in the last 2 days and when I last checked was sitting at about 68 and 3/4 cents, and from what ive just read in the financial pages it is not meant to stay at that level for long.So they say,if you can believe the so called experts.
Anyway just thought id let you know.

thanks for the heads up Gards. I am actually sitting here in the office watching it on the bloomberg terminal as we speak. sitting at .68757. Our experts (I work for an investment bank) are saying the same thing about it going down - but they also say 'the most accurate forecast is today's forecast' so in otherwords, they have no idea and it really could do anything. the question is do you buy now or do you wait? - too bad its near the close of bank trade and i wont be going near one anytime soon.

Thanks Gards and Ozgal! Yes, I've been closely watching the fluctuations which seem to be in line with fluctuations in the price of commodities. We may purchase our money tomorrow so long as there's not an overnight crash!

and airfares are dirt cheap. midwest to aussie ville is under a grand (1000 americano)
but its just not in the plans for the next 12 months. when i come, it will require 6 weeks. i have a friend in NZ and i also want to do a little defrag time in Tahiti &/or Fiji. a whole south pacific tour.
jobs here arent as willing to let you take vacation for that long.

Hi fellow Aussies it is time to revisit this topic again.
There is something strange in the exchange neighborhood,as the Aus Dollar is Rockin.A short while ago it was sitting at just over 95.5 against the Green Back.I have been told there are mittigating factors here IE the US Reserve banking do some stuff that I realy do not understand except the bit where I read it puts downward pressure on the Green Back, and the mooted Interest Rate rise here in Australia.
Anyway a person who trades in this type of stuff once told us that when ever the Aussie Dollar starts getting over 95 then it is time to seriously consider buying some Green Backs, but just then another so called expert, said that it may keep going up.So I think I will wait until I get home next week to decide what to do.But if it is still over 95 then I will have a dash.

“Measures of underlying inflation are currently at levels somewhat below those the committee judges most consistent, over the longer run, with its mandate to promote maximum employment and price stability.

“With substantial resource slack continuing to restrain cost pressures and longer-term inflation expectations stable, inflation is likely to remain subdued for some time before rising to levels the committee considers consistent with its mandate.”

I agree.I was reading a simliar article and the only bit I understood was at the end when it said something like,"this should add downward pressure to the US Dollar"
The OZ is still sitting at 95.5 by the way.Maybe I should stop looking at exchange rates and go and pretend to do some work.;)

Well they did not think that this was possible, not that long ago but the venerable Aussie Dollar has been trading higher than the GreenBack for several hours and is still a small margin higher as we speak.
I still do not realy understand why,but am not going to complain,as I will be moving some dough around soon.
I was just listening to some guy waffle on in Eco speak, but it sort of translated to the US being pushed down a bit to try and boost trade exports and the Aussie going up because of our work ethic, and more so our Interest Rates going up and the Bloody Chinese buying shitloads of our natural resources,AKA Mining Boom.

More a reflection of our situation than yours, I think. Our Federal Reserve Bank announced today it's buying over a half a trillion of US government bonds. The intention and effect of this is to drive down our interest rates, to stimulate investment and hiring and housing. But as interest rates decline domestically, so does the US dollar, since people would rather hold currencies that pay higher rates.

I just heard on the Radio, that it is 28 years, since the Aussie Dollar has been in this position.

Right now it is sittting a Bees Dick above the USD but is very very slowly going up by about a 20th of a cent every 15 minutes

Think it has to get to about $1.03 before we get partity when we exchange. The guy Ken changes his money with (PNG Kina to AUD) every month reckons February will see the peak and we might get as high as $1.13. I hope so 'cos we have no spare cash just now.

Oh man, the difference between, say, 0.70 and $1.00 is huge over a two week trip... let alone my three months!!!

Hey, did Melissa get back to you? She had a bunch of friends on Facebook getting geared up about it and I think your ticket news may have burst a few bubbles!

Howdy
Because I have a US bank account I get a slighty better deal,I can get about 98.5 right now.I am ready to pounce but also being slightly greedy and holding out.If I get any where near parity then I will certainly jump.
I have not heard back from Melissa, but you are right that ticket news was a shock, but I had been given advance warning and told my friends and they got 5 day tickets early. It seems that I may be doing a small amount of work when I am at Byron,so that should pay for a few exspensive Beers.

Hey Tan
You been keeping an eye on this.
The Aussie Dollar is now sitting at at over $1.03.A record high
I just put mony into my US account and won on the deal even though as usual the Bank robbed me a bit.
I am going to transfer more money tommorow as it surely cant keep going up.
2 weeks back after the Japanese disaster it dropped down to 98 and the experts were saying that parity was over.
Shows how much the experts know. But I am happy to have a dash with where it is at the moment.

I know we should, but there's that whole not working thang! Will talk to the mister and see. Most of this trip was saved for at around .70 so it would be good to be a bit smarter! Good on you BTW!

Good old Aussie slang.
Similiar to Maxwell Smart saying "missed it by that much"

Or as Greg Norman would say.
I was a bees dick away from winning the Masters.

The Canadian dollar is also trading above the U.S. dollar. :) Such a change from the first couple of years when we came to NOLA and it was worth about 67 cents.
