It would be nice to have a place for Jazzfest, but the hotels are getting smarter. Give it a few weeks - Saw this :
From: Biddingfortravel.com
Events that historically sell out hotels from very large like marathons and Mardi Gras to smaller local events like sports competitions have been hugely impacted by the economy and likely will not sell out hotels this year. As a result, you should not bid too high too far in advance because it is likely that availability will increase as your dates approach resulting greater access to inventory through Priceline. I'm not suggesting that you wait until the last minute to start bidding because you may get a good deal far in advance, but do not get carried away bidding too high too far in advance if there is plenty of availability on the hotel websites. This is yet another reason why checking rates before you bid is so important.

I don't know what you consider a good hotel deal but www.venere.com has the O'Keefe Plaza Hotel for $99 for a King Smoking or NonSmoking.
Please ignore this post, I just read the reviews:
The best review I read was that it was the worst hotel the reviewer had ever occupied. And it went downhill from there!!!

usually your best deals start happening in mid-April like around the 9th or 10th on through...be patient if you can, you'll save a bundle. Last 2 yrs we got rooms at Hilton Riverside for $65 or so...a great place to keep track is Swagland.com
here's the 2008 results, gives you an idea of how it evolved last year... http://jazzfest.swagland.com/bidding08.html

I am certain that there will be some stellar hotel deals to be had; I feel that by just waiting a bit more prices will come down significantly......
I am not picky about location, anywhere in the Quarter, the CBD or along Canal will be just fine for my needs.

Just be patient. I am not as wise as Swag, but I do keep an eye on certain variables. I am fairly certain that the number of out-of-town visitors this year will be smaller than last year. Maybe even smaller than 2006.
I got caught up in the frenzy and booked early. I'm pretty sure the day will come when I am going to regret it.

once all those AIG folks cancel their rooms, the hotels will have a surplus and have to drop their prices.

Yeah, I have a condo with others, but wanted 2 nights with my honey alone. So, booked the Renaissance Pere Marquette through easyclick at 144/night. I understand it is sat and sun, but am STILL hoping for a better deal.

This is the first time in 19 years of fest that I have not booked a hotel this late in the game. We had a lot of uncertainty on who would be joining us this time around, but as far as it looks now it's just me and the wife. Over the years we have had a krewe anywhere between 6 - 22, last year we brought our kids for the first time.
So I have held off booking waiting for that last minute deal. (actually I have our weekdays booked just not 2nd weekend). I have been checking PL & HW everyday for months with no luck. I am usually a planner but I thought this time I would gamble a bit and see what happens.
Let the deals begin.

They're headed for the Tchoup House. They were just waiting for the folks who reserved it to default so they could take advantage of the situation.

Yeah, the question is not "WHERE are the good hotel deals???" but rather "WHEN are the good hotel deals???". And no one has gotten a good last minute deal, since it is not yet last minute.
Keep checking, but have patience. The deals may start tomorrow, or may not show up till early-mid April.

I have to update the rates on this website about every other day and i will say this - some hotels have lowered their prices and some hotels have raised them. My point is that some hotels are seeing plenty of reservations, have sold out of their room blocks and don't need to do a deep discount.
The rates listed listed here are a good guide for current prices. If you can find better you have scored a deal.

Booking with jazz fest special on this site The New Orleans Marriott 555 Canal April 23-28 would be around $1,195, Same location/dates with EasyClicks sites is $952. Saving $243 dollars. enough to attend the fest for five days :)

Thanks for doing this, Dave. I had somehow thought the rates posted here were what was available when the list came out, and that the list wasn't updated until the next year's fest. And I'm pleased (and surprised) to hear that some of the rates here are declining.
I'm sure the Threadheads here still looking for deals would appreciate a heads-up on any of the more significant rate drops.
When the Fest list first came out, I mentioned in my Blog that I noticed more decent deals on that list than in past years. My threshold was Downtown or FQ, sub-$150, and either a name brand upscale/midscale chain or decent Tripadvisor reviews.
The list then was:
The Marriott Courtyard Downtown is $145. It's just a block and a half from the Quarter.
The Marriott Courtyard Convention Center, a few blocks further away, is $129.
The Hotel New Orleans (former Holiday Inn Select) is $139.
The Residence Inn Convention Center is $139.
Springhill Suites $134.
All are still listed, rates unchanged.
Looking today, I also see two more. Not sure if these are the rate drops FestyDave mentioned, or if I just didn't notice them originally.
Hilton Garden Inn Convention Center $129
Marriott Convention Center $149
None of these rates are as low as what we have seen come available on PL/HW in April of past years, but they do offer one big advantage: you can book them now and stop worrying.
And a general observation - when I first started Festing in the 90's, rates like these were hard to find and usually only available if you reserved your room at least 10 months in advance. A decade later, and these are available 6 weeks out, that's noteworthy.

I've been trying but with no luck so far.
I will try again on 3/29 which will be exactly one month before my departure. If no luck on that date, I will make up a back up plan and make reservations that are cancellable, with just a $25 fee charge.

Got a tent?
You can camp in Bayou Segnette State Park and take the Canal St. Ferry from Algiers to the FQ and JF. Sites with electric and water are $18/night. Can't beat that price in any hotel!
It's actually very relaxing to camp for JF, and the ferry rides are really fun and picturesque too.

I just got the Hilton Riverside on priceline at $65 for April 24th through May 4th. May go down a bit later, but I'm happy with that price for the Hilton.

Rats, I got it $68 for 9 nights--could have saved $27. Just kidding; I'm ecstatic to get it! I'll see everybody at Threadhead Central on the Mississippi!
