Yesterday we had a big Bushfire Benifit Concert for the Victorian Red Cross Apeal. And we got 81,500 people along to the Melbourne Cricket Ground and made a profit of about 5 Million on the gate and I hope that we will also make about 500,000 on Merch sales.Figures still a work in progress
There were numerous musical highlights with Midnight Oil reuniting and Crowded House making a surprise performance plus some local faves, such as Hunters and Collectors and Split Enz also getting back togther, and Kings of Leon,Jack Johnson,Paul Kelly and plenty of others, all of which I didnt see as we were under the pump.
The ironic thing is that it pissed down for nearly all of yesterday, for the 1st time in 3 months soaking lots of patrons and staff. And if this had have happened, I think exacty 5 weeks earlier we would not have had to have the bloody concert.
We got good rain across most of the State and the last big burning fire is now under control. The weather has been strangely cool for two weeks and has been tipped to stay like that.So hopefuly now everyone can go home,or to their home town and start with the rebuilding of their lives.
Cheers

Glad to hear some good news about the weather and what a wonderful outpouring of love and support the event was. Hope things continue to get better for those affected...

Yay! All the news reports were wonderful, and from the looks of happy folk in the crowd the rain didn't dampen anyone's spirits!

Congrats on your involvement in helping put this together. Huge.

And yeah, don't think there was a person in Australia who didn't get the irony of all that rain at the benefit concert. Oh, and I heard there wasn't a dry eye (at the Sydney show I think) when Marcia Hines sang Fire and Rain.

That would have been great to see.
I must say that I was astounded when Midnight Oil played Beds are Burning at the MCG,just because I thought some wowsers may have found the title inapropriate, but the crowd didnt care, and I must say it was great to see a presnt day straight laced Govt Front Bencher revert back to be a protest singing Rock and Roller again.

It was indeed a great event and a real damn shame I couldn't make it. It's amazing how much both events have raised, and combined with a host of smaller events just shows how the music community rallies around in support of good causes. And the rain has been fantastic and finally put the remnant fires out....shame you had to get drenched, Gards, working your ass off!!!

Good news. I can imagine that ra*n coming down felt like such a gift, especially during the concert.

For once I was happy to be working in the r thing, and hopefuly we will have more to come.
The music community have been excellent as you said, but it also great to see that for a change people just wanted to get together for the common good.
