The bright folks at LMF have seen the wisdom of quickly getting this online for us. Im happier getting my cds before my trip- this way I am familiar with the tracks in case they are performed at JF- and with the airlines getting stricter on baggage weight- the more i can get shipped to me- the happier I am. Can't wait for the mail..........LOL

An all around great effort....St. Louis Joe bought it and gave it a spin. Boutte's version of American Tune is just absolutely beautiful. I believe Todd Duke and Leroy Jones add a great layer of sound in with John and Paul's vocals. And of course there is the TH song.

Will the track names be available then? I'm playing the CD through my iTunes and none of the track/artist/album info is available. The dummy pop up box said I could enter them and upload them but I'm too iTune ignant :o
CEfromLA
03-19-2009, 05:28 PM
I can kind of talk you through entering them, it in't really difficult...
It will load as an Unknown Artist and load each track seperately as a box under artists. Click on each box so you get the next screen. Right click on it and at the top of the list, click on Get Info.
Enter the Album, artist and title of the song. You'll have to do that for each track, but once you enter the info once, after you type a bit, it will default to what you want. Once you get them all in, Itunes will organize it into an album for you.
It sounds a lot more complicated that it is....

This is a brilliant record.
I didn't think so, at first. I loved "Good Neighbor" and "Exit To Mystery Street" so much, I initially thought the new record didn't compare.
But upon repeated listenings, and with a little perspective, I came to be impressed by "Stew"'s understated vibe. Paul is a songwriter (and a personality) of the highest caliber. John has always reminded me of a cross between Harry Belafonte and Nat King Cole, and if you're old, like me, you know what kind of compliment that is.
The two of them, as a duo, is as delicious as a deep chocolate gumbo. And I'm overwhelmed by the confluence of circumstance that brought them together, and Threadhead Records, into being.
Bravo, everyone!

I admit i'm not a lover of singer songwriters, however, I fell in love with John Boutte when I heard Good Neighbor. I love my guy, Paul, for his vibe, but I fell in love with him musically when I heard Stew Called New Orleans. Really, really love this album. :D

Stew Called New orleans has been playing in my car stereo non-stop since I received it. What a wonderful, intimate album. And Boutte's take on American Tune gives me shivers every single time.
Plus I just can't get enough of Be A Threadhead - makes me sooo happy to sing along.

I don't know if this has been posted before, but 'Stew' is available, sort of, on Amazon. However it is listed as out of stock, and has no cover image or reviews. Seems like this is an opportunity to do a few things to help promote the album. Amazon distribution matters.

very good. I'm downloading it right now from iTunes.
I have a question about the title track that's been bugging me: Who is "Gregory Klein?" As in John's line: "Mr. Matt Perrine or Mr. Gregory Klein..."
It jumped out at me since I first listened to it when I bought it a few weeks before Fest, and I know I discussed this with Wynn and maybe some others at the patry. Because I bought it off iTunes I don't have the liner notes, so I don't know if the lyrics were written that way, if John sings it that way because it sounds better, or if it's a classic Boutte slip, and he really thinks Craig's name is Greg, so he sang Gregory. Wynn was going to check his liner notes and I don't know if he ever did, so I'm asking anyone else who bought the actual CD if it's in there. Just curious--because these are the types of serious matters I think about...

I think he (John and/ or Paul, who co-wrote it) is just playing with Craig Klein's name to make it fit the rhythm of the song... mister Craig-ory Klein... I've heard him sing that song several times, always the same way. I do hear it as CRAIG-ory not Gregory.

Since when are song lyrics precise and correct??? Its just playful.
So when he sings "don't forget to bring your greens" does he mean collards, mustards, or cash? Or did he mess up the lyric and it's actually "green" not "greens?"
IJDM! :D

Hey, easy there good witch, it was just a question. It obviously doesn't matter. But, as I said, these are the things I think about.
BTW, since it's a stew, I would guess he meant turnip greens, collards, mustard greens, or the like; but the double entendre with money could be intended. I don't think there's any mess up there either way.

by the way, Craigory could be his real name.
by the way, Craigory could be his real name.
True. That's why I asked. Never heard it used as a real name, but stranger things have happened. I did check around the internets a few weeks ago to make sure his name wasn't Greg, and all I saw was Craig for him. But that doesn't mean it couldn't be his real name.
In any event, checking again just now I see that Paul has the lyrics on his website, and it is indeed "Craigory" as written. So that mystery (for me at least) is solved: http://www.paulsanchez.com/indexf.php?pagename=lyrics
Carry on.

The mystery is truly solved. I emailed Craig with the following question and got this answer:
A Threadhead wanted to know why, in Stew called New Orleans, does John sing "Craigory"?
Is it because:
1. Craigory is your real name
2. John was being playful
3. It fit better in the song
4. Other
Yes, these are the things we talk about when fest is over - LOL!
