View Full Version : The other "Other kind of JF training": Denial & Excuses

Since I had a shoulder surgery and am still in rehab, I have the perfect excuse for not being a fit specimen this year!:D

So, when the chips are down, you gotta resort to comfort eating, right? Everyone knows that venti grande mochas are fat-free, zero calorie and are very good for the skin, so I won't deny myself one tiny treat in the midst of my misery. But, what do you do when the evil Leprechaun comes in the middle of the night and puts all of your clothes in a dryer set on "HIGH"?

I've decided it is all due to my dog's indulgences and to blame him for everything. I've put him on a strict exercise regimen and reduced his food allotment. Baby, by the time Fest rolls around, he is going to be so buff. :)

LOL - Now this is my kind of thread. I'm in the same boat. Still really restricted on physical activity due to improper/incomplete healing of my spinal fusion. Plus laid off. So I've been heavy into comfort foods lately. Plus hanging around home a lot getting buzzed doesn't help. ;)

You all may see me wearing the same pair of short or dress everyday at fest, but hell, at least I'll be there and be happy!

looking in your closet, or looking in the stores?

us yankees are rather fluffy and big sizes are easier to come by.
drop me an email and i can hook you up with some online stores that are reasonably priced. have them shipped to fest, or your first US destination, the ones you dont like, ship back.

Even in the French Quarter the Walgreen's has deals on tees, including plus sizes. Also easy to buy them cheap in the open French Market section.

yyr! What a great line and so very true.

Being around people who like good music, good food,a good time and decent beverages, miller etc disregarded, and most importantly fun interaction with other like minded souls.Makes JazzFest so great, and I trust that it also educates some people.I remember my first time at fest in 2002 and Bonnie Rait played an anti war song song and lots of people were booing,a friend of mine went a couple of years later and a plane flew over head with a sign saying Impeach Bush and he told me that the bulk of the crowd cheered.
This year we should all cheer for better times ahead.

wow, i must be full of jello.

if you were fat, you'd know that fluffy is code for slightly fat.

more words that really mean fat (at least to me):
full figured
queen size
rubenesque
hearty
stout
well fed

fat is not a bad word. being fat is not bad.
being too fat to zip your shorts is bad, or at least sad - definitely inconvenient.
being real fat, for real long, can be unhealthy (but a lot of fun).

Whoopi Unloads on the Fashionistas

(March 20) -- Note to the fashion police and Stacy London: If you're going to critique Whoopi Goldberg's clothes, be prepared to face her wrath on 'The View.'
The ABC co-host let loose on recent magazine reports bashing her wardrobe. She took aim at 'What Not to Wear' host London and TV Guide writer Ingela Ratledge, who Goldberg dubbed an 'anonymous b----.' Whoopi Goldberg let the claws fly on 'What Not to Wear' host Stacy London and a TV Guide

Whoopi opened her rant by saying: "I have a little bone to pick with TV Guide Magazine, particularly a woman called Ingela Ratledge," who wrote that Golberg goes on television "looking like you're ready to make a run to Costco."

Goldberg defends herself saying: "My style, who I am, is not about my clothing. If I came in a burlap bag, I would still be Whoopi Goldberg and I've always been me so you can kiss my ass."

Whoopi then turns her trigger toward London, who chided Goldberg for her "oversized and casual" apparel that she says makes it hard to take her seriously. Goldberg shot back with: "Tracy, honey, Stacy, whatever your name is, I don't need you to take me seriously. I am myself, I've always been myself and you don't judge me by what I wear, you judge me by what I say

I dont think theres much denial involved, but its seem smarter than what I am doing.Which is eating a boring salad sandwich for dinner and thinking that I am being healthy, when I am consuming my 7th beer at the same time, and throwing aside lots of cucumber, that for some reason I cant stand.

I'm a fan of Country Flame; it's an unassuming dive, on Iberville, I believe. They have a wide selection of Latin dishes, and the tacos are tasty. It's on my list of places in New Orleans to eat cheap and well. I'm sure I'll spend some time there over Fest, since I'm staying at the HIFQ, right around the corner.

I also like Tomatillo's, where Frenchmen, Decatur & Esplanade all come together. They have great sauces, and outstanding tacos.

But I think my favorite Mexican place is a newer one, El Gato Negro, at the French Market. I've never had tacos there; everything else on the menu looks too good. They served the best steak fajitas I've ever had. (Of course, I had them after not eating red meat for several months, so maybe that clouded my judgement a little.)
