Instead of a post honoring any marker or milestone, I'd like to start a thread throwing a party honoring all the Threadheads for all they do throughout the year.

Ha, ha... we go up there for a swim in a gorgeous gorge when it's really hot (can't swim in the ocean here in our summer months), must order some new neck to knees for our next visit!

Oh, sorry... don't want to put you off coming for a visit, but to do so in our summer really WOULD be madness.

We have marine stingers (irukandji). Deadly marine stingers. Tiny little bastids you can't see. Used to be you could go off shore and not be worried about them, but the slippery suckers are appearing further and further out. Only out in our hot, wet cyclone season (another reason not to come here in summer)... don't know where they go in the other months.

Most of our beaches have stinger nets out in the summer... keep out box jellyfish but I'm skeptical about their effect on keeping out irukandji, which are tiny. Besides, who wants to swim in an enclosure with all the tourists? Water's too warm on shore in the summer anyway.

Kinda funny though to see the boys out on their sail boards wearing pantyhose to minimise the effects if they get stung... not so funny now that when you go out on a commercial boat it is mandatory to wear a stinger suit to go for a snorkel. So not a good look on someone my size. :eek:

I have to share some good news about someone who has been attending fess since the earlier 80's but doesn't post on the bored. Earlier this week, my friend Connie, received a liver transplant at the Walter Payton/U of Illinois Medical Center. Amazing story. She stayed strong all these years and never gave up. She left the hospital yesterday and is recuperating at home with the aid of her sister from Seattle.

One of her doctors discouraged her from attending Jazz Fest this year but she's stubborn and planning to head down anyway. She's promised to pace herself and plans to skip night shows. I know I can count on Linza and Tangie to help me keep an eye on her as they did last year.

If you see someone dancing to Freddy Omar in a Puerto Rican flag jersey, flash her a smile :)
