A few of y'all have mentioned going to this show. I'll be there, flying solo. Anyone interested in a meetup for pre-show drinks?

Make sure to get there early for the opening act: the New Orleans Klezmer All-Stars!

My wife Judy and I (Al) will be there. The doors open at 7:00 PM and the show begins at 8:00 according to http://www.terminal5nyc.com/event/2275 .

Has anyone been to Terminal 5 for a show. Apparently there are balconies. Does anyone have a preference where to see the show from?

Maybe there is someplace inside where we can meet.

Thanks

Al

Good idea, maybe the best place for a meetup is the venue itself. If we plan on 7/7:30, I'm guessing it will be easy to find each other??? I've never been to Terminal 5, so don't know of a good meeting spot.

I have not been there either. I got this general description from the a web site:

Terminal 5 boasts a clean, open layout for the 40,000-square-foot multilevel venue. A main floor with the performance space features 40' ceilings, unobstructed sightlines, and state-of-the-art sound and lighting, and a first and second wrap-around mezzanine provides excellent views to the stage from all areas of the venue. Terminal 5 has three bars - one on each level - that provide easy access to refreshments.

There are some reviews of Terminal 5 at :

http://www.yelp.com/biz/terminal-5-new-york

Maybe we want to get to the railing of the first level mezzanine so
we get an good view of the bands.

Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

Works for me. Again, unless there are other ideas?

I was seriously considering this show but was warned off the venue by more than one person. I was told it resembles a parking garage and has really bad sound. I have never personally been there, just passing this along. Please post a review of the venue after the show.

I've been there - The Word played there last winter, several TH's were in attendance. The place is pretty huge, and was sold out that night (or close to it). At least one of our crowd had issues at the time sith stairs, so we never ventured to the upper levels; mostly we hung in the back. I do remember the bar at the back of the main floor was raised a few steps, so that area had some okay sight lines.

I don't remember having a problem with the sound.

Maybe not my favorite venue, but I wouldn't let the fact that the show was there keep me away from a band I wanted to see.

there will be rhinos well at least one for sure-and wouldnt miss the NOKAS for anything even though i am a way too hip nyer and NEVER see opening acts-(8pm, think im gonna have to take the day off from work.....)

never except the last time i went to terminal 5 to see THE HOLD STEADY and Drive BY Truckers-

thought the venue was very spacious-think there was four floor above the large main level open GA area-raised bar area in the back and a pretty cool mellow staff and vibe there.didnt ever explore or go upstairs but that night the music was great and i wanted to be as close as possible-DBTsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!

anyway, think there are many many sightlines for short arses etc-one warning-its ALL CEMENT-wear good shoes for support.

thought the sound was good, not as good as the bowery ballroom, but good.it was actually too quiet for me for such rockin band but hey, tinitis is my constant friend these days. its way west side btw like 9th-10th ave west.

to find me-follow the dancing peace pipe.....btr/nyc

The Klezmers are also playing Sullivan Hall on Saturday night <http://sullivanhallnyc.com/>, and perhaps even a late night set at a well known rock club on Houston Street later that night.

They are also playing Thursday night and Lundi Gras night at the Dragon's Den as well as their now traditional Mardi Gras afternoon set at d.b.a (in New Orleans, of course.) Odd, but they haven't worked this much in years . . .

Yes, Jonathan still plays with the Klezmers. Jonathan (guitar), Dave Sobel (drums), and Dave Rebeck (violin) were joined by Joe Cabral (Iguanas) on bass and Matt Perrine on sousaphone last night for their show at the Circle Bar. Ben Schenck (Panorama Jazz Band and original Klezmer All Star) sat in on claritnet. Jonathan, Dave, and Dave, will all be in New York, along with Rob Wagner (clarinet,) Glenn Hartman (accordian) and Tuba Joe from New York providing the bass. Monday night they all (accept for the tuba player) will be back at the Dragon's Den (with Nobu Ozaki on bass) for a big Lundi Gras double bill with Panorama. On Mardi Gras they do their now traditional afternoon set at d.b.a. (no cover--if you can squeeze in the door,) no doubt joined by Ben Ellman (Galactic sax player and long time klezmer) and many friends and guests.
